Quick query for those in the know regarding MSA engine regs:

MSA 2010 Yearbook said:
11.5.1 For Road-Going Series Production Cars, the cylinder block and cylinder head must remain in the original position and be of the original type and material. Induction is free, as are exhaust systems, but must remain in the same capacity class as the original car or the manufacturer's specified option for the model and engine.

Does this exclude fitting a B16B to an EK4?

I take it as meaning you cannot use anything other than a B16A2, but not entirely sure, surely any B16* could be considered the same type?

Those regs are specific to road going production series events. Plenty of other events that allow engine swaps etc.

All depends what you are planning to race in?

Hillclimbs, so those regulations are the ones I would be adhering to.

It's not a problem, I am still using the original B16A2, just wondering whether I could fit a B16B/B18C within the regs.

it says the same capacity so Id take it as no you cant, and most regs always say if it doesnt say you can take it as though you cant

I understand what you mean on the whole 'grey area' issue surrounding what you can and can't do, however:

1. It states same capacity class, which in this case is up to 2000cc.
2. A B16B doesn't increase the capacity over the B16A2

Hence why I am not so certain whether it is allowable.

Also, as a related subject, the regs also say that oroginal suspension mounting points cannot be altered.

Does this mean camber adjustable UCAs are not allowed? Or simply you cannot change MacPhearson to double wishbone for example.

Reading it again to me this means, that you can use any engine that honda offered in the civic range which would include the B16b and the B18 from the MB civic, well that would be my arguement anyway lol

an yeh the suspension mods means you cant move the pick up points or ad driver adjustble roll bars etc.. like Toca spec stuff, but you can use camber arms that mount from the standard points and adjust caster and roll center using the OEM pickup points, this is the reason we made the roll center adjusters and most of the P1 racing parts, you can stay within the rules whilst gaining an edge

we had the same trouble with our DC5 running in the series it has everyone goes on that its a full blown touring car but in fact its far from it, it uses all the standard pick up points and runs OEM anti roll bars lol

This is what I am thinking. I think the B18 from the MB might be pushing it, but the B16B is techincally from the same chassis, so should be eligible.

Speaking to someone else racing in the 750MC, he thinks that running in the standard production class means just that, the car must be completely standard. This means my car automatically goes into the modified class with it's current spec. :(
