This is by no means complete but I thought I'd take a few pics as I went along while I installed my Mugen Intake yesterday.

Bear in mind, I managed to do this without having to remove the bumper.

I've circled the places where either M10 bolts were removed or needed for the install but may have missed a couple due either forgetting or not being able to get a good shot with my camera.

Remove Oem Airbox

Car has been jacked up on drivers side only to gain better access and to give enough room to pull out resonator.
Free plastic splash guards

Resonator held in with 2 x M10 Bolts. This is one of them.
After removing the other, resonator pulled out but needs coaxing due to the awkward shape.

Mugen airbox fixed in place

Filter fitted

End of filter fixed and circlip tightened

Trumpet end fitted and held in place with Duct tape.
I chose to point end down slightly so no water can reside in the end should some drip in there

I was suprised how heavy the oem airbox and resonator are in comparison to the Mugen.

Stored a little posidrive screwdriver in with the jack in case I ever encounter a lake in the middle of the road. i can then just unscrew the airbox cover without the fear of sucking water into the engine.:nice:

very nice!!!

I didn't know MUGEN had a velocity stack behind the air filter! That means theres 2 velocity stacks in total. :nice:

Very nice, mine's finally been despatched from Nengun, excited:D

So just to confirm, you don't need to remove the bumper?

Why is everyone afraid of taking off the bumper to install these it would be easier than lying under the car in tight spaces if you asked me...

only takes a few minutes to get the bumper off if you've done it before, and presents a nice opportunity to polish the front panel

:)

Correct. The bumper was not removed.
As long as you jack up the drivers side enough, all you'll need to do is hold the plastic splash guards back and pull the resonator out.

It's a tight fit to get the Mugen Intake in place too but once you find the correct angle it fits fine.

It took me a good few hours from start to finish mainly because it was real cold out and I needed loads of coffee breaks.:)

To be honest, for the power gains this intake is meant to give you (5bhp 'ish ??) I'll find it hard to believe anybody can really feel that extra power, me included.
On the psychological side though, Vtec is even more addictive with the sound from this piece of kit. It really does sound awesome

nice write up :)
i personally took the bumper off to make it easier to install.
very nice piece kit imo.
dont know about figures etc..... but its one of my best mods :)

me bumper came off when fitted it back some weeks ago... tho thought it was a must for it to come off for working space!

when i got it my m8 all thought it was a big waste (pricey)... now they all luv the sound comming frm it me aswell :nice:

Cheers Craig, saves me buying one off ebay!

How's the Datsun btw?

you get a metal mugen badge in with the instructions

:)

instructions ALL in Japanese! :D but supplied with lots of diagrams too... anyways u hve the EK9.org @ any time :nice:

BTW: would water be sucked into the engine even @ low rpm..? i mean if u drive slow in rainy weather... or running the engine @ any rpm creates same suction? We having lots of rain at the mo... & scared i might mess it up! :nono:

The engine is obviously sucking more air in at higher rpm.. ie. at 4000rpm you'll be using twice as much air as at 2000rpm :blinx:

You should only have problems with the mugen system if driving through deep water, rain shouldnt be a problem. If your worried, take the top part off the mugen air enclosure to stop it sucking air from down low.

:)

Mine arrived today, no metal Mugen badge though.

/bothered, cant wait to get this installed!!!!:D

Just noticed on nengun its now £365 delivered, mine was £334 heh, makes a change, normally things go down in price after I buy them:p

argh, fitted it but it's rattling, can you help me out here Zen?

If you put it in say 3rd at 15mph and floor it does it rattle? I'm gonna take it apart tomorrow and try and add some pads to whatever its hitting. I'm pretty sure it's rubbing against the bottom rad hose too which isnt good..
