After nearly 3 years of trouble free ownership I've got the modifying bug again. Im glad I was patient in finding a good clean base car as a long term keeper
My plans are to give her a clean unique clean look & to do mods that wont negatively effect driveability, comfort or fuel economy.
I wont be doing anything too crazy as she's strictly a daily commuter / family car & is used more or less 6 days a week.
How she looked after a good wash.

After a few months of ownership my tyres were knackered so I put on my old 14' inch alloys I had lying around.
After 8 years of storage they still had decent tyre pressure

The difference in lighter alloys was really good. Much more responsive & quick on pickup. Have had a run in with a few VTI's & with these wheels theres no difference in
performance until about 50mph+

Fastforward a year or so
& santa has delivered some Christmas goodies for 2012.

Start the year as you mean to go on.
I painted my centre console a few years ago & it turnout out good, so thought id spray my grill & front lip myself.
On my others cars I got the garage to do it, so lets see what I can do.

Tackled the grill last night.

Wetsanding the grill for the primer to adhere to nicely.
IMG_2107.jpg

Masking it up. Took time with this as I didnt want any mistakes when adding primer or spray.

Done, just needs a touch of wet sanding to get a smoother finish

Gonna start sanding down the lip today. Hopefully get that primered up too
then will look at getting the paint & a mask. Then waiting for a nice warm day

Nice weather & free time collided so go to work today.
Set up the ghetto back garden spraying booth.
Like I said above, Ive only ever sprayed my old interior console before so took my time with this.
I wanted nice even coverage & no drips.
Practise on my console & random plastic bits in the past did help.
Ghetto spray booth set up. Out of the breeze to avoid dust & flies
getting involved.

A good even coat of basecoat applied allover. Then left for 1/2 an hour to dry

Onto the paint. Some light mist coats of colour applied then followed by some good wet coats.
I took the grille out & put it against the car for comparison.

Looking better

Once happy with the colour (4-5 coats) & no dust / runs in sight it was time to move onto the lacquer.

Finished

Happy with the results so left those to dry for over 24 hours as recommended.
The next step will be to give the lacquer a nice polish with some rubbing compund to bring out the shine.
:)

Shes been a good girl, so It was time to treat her to some Botox & new shoes.

I lost the handle to my jack, so had to do a ghetto scissor setup. If any one has a spare handle they don't want let me know

New shoes

4 wheel alignment

Looking good for the summer.

Next on the list will be :
Fitting grille
Rust protection
D.I.Y colour coding

Got bored of looking at the standard grill.
Didn't need to remove front bumper at all

Finished. Haven't got the time to continue the journey.. But think I've done a good job. Extremely practical & old school fresh was the goal.

Modifications:
OEM Honda 50/50 red / clear rear lights,
VTI front lip,
EK9 grille,
5 x Honda civic VTI fan blade alloys ( Original honda paint - Purchased from someone who had them in storage for years)
EK9 Cupholder
Boot protector / plastic moulding
Magnetic sump plug
Front mud flaps
OEM Honda civc EK mats
EK9 style gear knob
Sony USB, MP3, CD head unit

This is a lovely color. Nice simple mods to make it stand out. Lowering would be next on list if u was keepin it...
