Hi,

Was wondering if i'm just paranoid or this is a normal for a B16B. My engine sounds right (compared to another ek9), but a lil loud as if it's low on engine oil. You can hear the engine's tappits quite loud... and i was kinda worried about that. :nerv:

I've taken it to 3 different machanics and they all say it's fine. They say it's normal to hear it but it's nothing to worry about in these types of engines. They also said if it's was a knocking noise then something to worry about!?! :nerv: (luckily it's not a knocking noise!!)

Has anyone had a problem where they think the engine sounds a lil loud?

Good side, got my carbon bonnet.... :D ....

Wouldn't worry about it, mines quite tappy. My brothers DC2 Type-R is silent next to mine.

When I first got my DC2, I thought that the engine sounds a little tappy :nerv: ,so had the teg booked into Honda to get the vales adjusted for peace of mind.

After this was all done, it still sounded the same, so there is nothing to worry about, they all sound like that :D

You should hear my the engine on my Honda VFR 400 (motorbike), now that sounds tappy, but sounds more like a sewing machines at high revs :D

vtec engines have a lot of valve train noise, i always have the same concern but as simone said even after a valve adjustment the noise is still there, i would not worry about it.

Thanks guys....

Noise doesn't seem so loud now! =)

BabyFace, yeah the car is standard height, only basic mods so far,
Iginition leads
Samco Piping
BMC induction kit
Bonnet

Next probs a manafold.

Also can anyone recommend a vtec contorller? Looking to get one, want to fill gap under headunit with some gauges or controller. =)

I would not recommend any vtec controllers. I would recommend tuning on a dyno with crome, hondata, uberdata ect. (or whatever your tuner is most familiar with)

x2, i hate vtec controllers cause you cant adjust fuel or ignition to match, dont forget when the vtec comes on the fuel/ign map changes as well. with a vtec controller it does not though.

X3. No vtec controllers, no s-afc, no v-afc no fuel regulators, nothing of these craps!! Only a complete aftermarket ECU to adjust everything (EMS, Power FC), not cheap but you do what you have to do :nice:

hello there fellow yellow ek9 owner :nice: ,sounds like ya need the clearances done then it should be fine ,how many km's or miles is on it mate ??

what oil do you use? 10w - 40 ? I had the same concern but the mechanic told me it was normal

recently I really notice my engine sound!!

I can hear the injectors and "tap tap tap" when the rev builds up....it annoys me.

I did the tappets but maybe they are still not tight enough?

Do you guys hear the engine as well....should I tighten the tappets or not?

what type of oil do you use? i noticed mine got louder after using synthetic... but as we mentioned above, hondas have loud valvetrain, my friend has a masarati (farrari engine) it also has VERY loud valvetrain, sounds almost like a diesel at idle...

hmmm the noise really only came through after my change to 0W30 full synth...

but i am adjusting the tappets tomorrow advice from experience mechanic, but having said that the car is perfmorning very well, VTEC's strong.

I'll see if that gets rids of the significant "tapping" noise.
