Yep you'll need to remove the dash and the heater matrix box to gain access to fully remove it. Its tucked in behind certain parts, and held on along the base of the windscreen with plastic clips.
I had a water leak coming in from behind mine.
Worth a note though, I found the carpet underlining was damp/ wet in a few places, not just on the passenger side where the leak was coming in. Think its there to absorb any water or condensation build up, the black top plastic lining stops it coming into the interior. Weighs a fair bit, so good if you trying to shed weight.
I filled up all the gaps in the metal on mine then applied dynamat sound deadener on top. has fixed the leaking problem i had great!
