Welcome lad, from a fellow newbie. where about's in Ireland are you from?I'm from Tyrone, 9's are like hen's teeth in the north and any that are about have been tampered with :nono:, seems to be fair few more bout the south but same story there, been checking out dunk's history of cars and seems to have got only shining reviews, probably the best bet for a motor

im from kilkenny man there is an unreal amount of 9's around but mostly one's that have been ragged around the roads its unreal the way half the lads drivin them drive

Yea I know what you mean they get treated like a cheap hooker bought for a good time, f$@ked and passed on to the next poor sod, never maintained.
There are only about 4-5 in the north that I know of which makes them even more appealing to me but I just want a mint absolutely standard motor only way to buy them in my opinion, does my nut in listen to fellas chatting about tuning cars, I know lads that buy turbo'd cars and weld the actuator shut!!! and they look at me like i'm stupid when i tell them there nuts and gona blow the turbo very soon if there lucky or pop the engine if there not, these same type of dudes put a tumble dryer hot air tube from the front bumper to the intake manifold on vtec's cos apparently the air filter is too much of a restriction, so they'd rather sandblast the inside of their engine with tiny stone's thrown up by the car infront of them who's bumper their ridin' drives me crazy thats why want to buy grade 4 direct of the boat.
I know their not all this bad but you know what i mean!

you havent a clue man, there are people out there who drive their ek9s like their suppose to be driven and still maintain them with the highest quality products
if you want a cruiser buy a 1.4 or vti etc....
you sound like you havent a clue or else have met some very strange people

Chilli dude!!! what's your problem?? I dont buy fast cars to potter around in them, any car i've had i've drove it hard but look after it to the last, changing the oil regularly only using the best stuff and I know there are lots of fellas out there that do the same all of which i have no problem with after all thats what the car was designed for.
I have a problem with lad's (that i personally know) that are constanly bouncing the car of the limiter using **** oil, unleaded petrol, using airfilters that look like there coated in tar or no filters at all and have no clue about change fuel filters and generally car maintenance.
All the lads on this site seem to be the same mentality as myself use the car to its max potential but take good care of it as well.
I dont know which bit of that message offended you but i was simply talking about local fellas i know and previous experiences and would like to know why I havent a clue?
If you read JDMfrank's message previous to mine it was simply a responce to that end of, no offence was meant.

Na def not man! i'm irish myself, so wouldnt do that :)) the way i do things is probably the most expensive way buy it standard then mod it with all the bits i like.
I'm all for modifying as long as it's done with taste and purpose as my poor bank account can vouch for :(
checked out your tread there, very tidy motor! what are you driving now? always had turbo's before but love the vtec mates have had different models EK VTI-S tanabe exhaust mugen filer etc, MB6 VTI-S remapped, new header/manifold and full line all of which i loved but never sure how they stacked up against EK9 cos theres so few of them about.
Spent 1000's on my last motor WRX STI Type-RA impreza (fifth injector on inlet manifold model) which absolutely chewed up the tar :drive: so quick thru the gears not sure how EK9 would stack up against it so dont know whether to go for a 9 or something turbo again like an S14 etc but the EK9 is a legend in my mind and wanted one for about 10 years now but always got tempted by something with bigger bhp

coming from a sti ra impreza you will be dissappointed:((
ive always had turbo cars myself 198bhp glanza,320bhp st205 gt4 and the ek9 speed is very dissappointing but its a 1.6n/a and its impressive for what it is....it handles superb though...
im the same, always buy standard and modify it myself...its the only way then at least its done properly...
im driving a ver5 sti type r coupe now mate, great car and have already spent a few grand on it already and only have it a few months(baffled sump, hks downpipe, blitz nurspec remap etc etc etc...)
i have a feeling you will be dissappointed unless you plan on doing alot of mods to the ek9

see thats what i'm thinking so very wary, my favourite car of all time was my glanza even above the impreza, althou the impreza would have ate the ass of it.
Mate had an EP82 which he got bored out to 1.4 forged pistons etc etc high boost was 1.5-1.6 bar full TRD sus, arb's and diff it was just insanely fun to drive and had round the 200bhp mark, i'd an EP82 last year with cusco diff anti-lift kit arb's panhard rod etc etc and it's was awesome round corners which is where i have my fun.
So from this point of view im thinkin bhp isnt everything some cars are just brilliant fun to drive esp on the twistys, if i got an EK wouldn't be going nuts maybe just full system (mani included) spoon/hondata ecu, and sort out the suspension, adjustable top mounts etc for super sweet handling.
but so many other options like a chaser, silvia even looking at few 250bhp glanza's really dont know what to do, i suppose i could be in worse dilemma's!!! :D

take a drive in them all and see what you like,a good drive mind, plenty of bends like:nice:
my ek9 was my fave car to handle i must say but saying that my sti would make bits of it on a bendy road
its all driver preference tho,id rather have the power and handling..and the driver diff control is awesome:bow:
as said just take a drive and see what floats your boat
