Newbie with a few questions..

Hi, i just have a few questions i would like to ask if thats okay..

well i have had a 1.1i saxo.. which wsa okay i guess.. i have just moved onto a Toyota MR2 Roadster 1.8 VVTi.. and my mate told is about these honda EK9's so i did my googling and they seem very very nice :) i just have a few spec questions..

1: is the 0-60 really 5.7 seconds? or have i misread as my MR2 was 7.8 :|
2: also could i pick on up for around 7000 GBP
3: On Track or private land, what is the top end speed of a stock EK9

Hello, welcome to the forum, answering your questions:

1. Yep it's correct, at sea level the ek9 can achieve that 0-60 in 5.7 seconds :nerv:
2. I have no idea of what GBP means, but i can give you the price in us $ , an 1997 ek9 in good shape, can be around 7000 - 9000 $ + shipping + country taxes :nice:
3. On track, with a stock ecu you can't go above 180 km/h but if you have and aftermarket ecu you can go way above that, i have an aftermarket ecu in my ek9 i think i hit the 210 km/h once, i can be really sure, because my dashboard only shows 180 km.h :( :angry:
 
sorry GBP British pound i ment :) also 210Km/H looks like im gunna have to convert i need mph :p thanks for info mate :)
 
130mph? my mr2 did 135? surely this can do more than 210kmh? in private road..

yes it can, i will post a suzuka circuit time attack video of an ek9 soon! i think the top speed there was like 220 km/h + :nerv:

check out this review of the ek9 so you can understand the history of this car, and the great cornering speed + performance it has!

jamie ive had 155mph from a b16a2 UK Civic Hatch VTi (SiR) this car - http://neocult.com/vti/DSC00929.JPG and 160mph from my integra type R here - http://neocult.com/cars/integra/Teg/5.jpg 150mph from my del sol SiR here - http://neocult.com/cars/sir/18.jpg so yeah all b16/b18s seem capable of the 160mph mark :) also been in a mugen tuned S2000 at 170mph!!! :eek:

None of my cars were standard but not heavy modded, when my 9 arrives i will goto my private track with a video camera and my tomtom gps and take some vids :)

Okay my 7,500 quid roadster sorta sucks lol 0-60 in 7.8 seconds.. top speed i can get and its at its last legs is 135 :| and its a 1.8 VVTi!

i'm new to this forum, just reading through this forum and seen this post,

i've got a EK9 2000 Yellow Type Rx, had it for about a week but the day i got it, i was driving it down M1 and managed to hit like 130MPH, probs could more but had cars ahead.

In 4th it managed to hit 120mph but after that it pulls slowly, is there something wrong with mine or is will it eventually get there (top speed 155mph)?

Do you have an aftermarket ecu? because the ek9 civic speed limit is 180 km/h.

Right now i have and aftermarket ecu, i'm really sure i hit the 200 km/h - 210 km/h once, but 155 mph = 248 km/h i think thats just too much.

Do you have and aftermarket gauge cluster? since the oem one only reads up to 180 km/h :nice:

nah, car is standard apart from

Ignition leads, Samco piping, and some digital temp gauge.

When i got the car they said it was delimited, and the clock is the same but now reads in mph. So right now the mileage on there is 93kkm but after that its going to read in MPH. (if that makes sence!! :D )

I'm guessing i need to get an aftermarket ECU, what will that do to the car, (increase bhp? Torque? what will that to do the MPG)
 
well the thing is with a new car mate lol you aint used to it.. you will saqy you are but there is no way in a week you can get used to a car.. i got an MR2 roadster yer i am 18, i drove it first few days and could only get 115 out of it i was unimpressed... got used to it after a while it was upto 130 no probs.. i dont think from what i have read it should go slow after 120 in 4th.. perhaps you are not letting it go to teh max in the other gears.. try letting it go to 8,000rpm till the max then change gear.. io think you are chnaging gear to early..

lol i forgot to mention this is my 2nd EK9.... i had a non facelift one about 2 years ago, i imported it over but had trouble getting model report for it so i sold it but had over a month with it... but back then my clock was still in kmh not mph so wasn't too sure top speed anyway :lol:

BUT ur probs right, i can never seem to move off right in this EK9, the clutch and accel are proper stiff in my new car.

All i did to find out top speed was, floor it on motorway from 2nd - redline then 3rd - redline 4th redline (120mhp) then 5th pulls slowly but vtec is in play too just about hitting 135mhp had to slow down cuz of cars in front, but i think i'm just expecting too much from a 1.6.

I previously had a bora 2.8 4Motion used to cruise all the time doing 160mph :D

Well i don't really know if your speed meter is telling you the correct speed :nerv:

With and aftermarket ecu, you can increase bhp + torque, but the MPG will be affected, you will make less MPG because you car will need more gas :nice:

My car makes like 20 -22 MPG now :( just with the aftermarket ecu :angry: but i dont use it as a daily drive so no problems at all :D
 
lol well i'm happy with the way the car is now. Still a lil juicy, but the 0-60 is fast!

I think the car is supposed to be 30mph combined or summit? (corrected me if i'm wrong tho)

My bora used to do 15mph around town! but ek9 cna't be that bad!

I'll be getting a carbon bonnet at the end of this month, so car should look proper hot!

I'll be putting photos up tmr, just hope it's a nice day, i've owned the car for just over a week and it's not rained once and i'm in the UK! lol
 
I Am on a motor traders Policy.. how do you think im 18 with a Roadster lol :p
