Hi all! I haven't yet got an EK9 type r but am hoping for one very soon. I just wanted to know, do the open filters on jap cars not suffer from heat soak? Thing is, at the moment I am currently driving a saxo vtr and one of the worst things you can do is put on an open filter as it just sucks in the hot air from the engine. However, most jap cars I see have open filters such as an HKS mushroom filter, and I just want to know, dont jap cars see a reduction in power from putting on open filters?

any car will suffer from heat soak. i run a open air filter on mine with a good cold air feed right into the filter and my car is awsume plus it still fels good in the mid 2.

CAI is the easiest way and worry-free. SRI needs more mods to feed cold air

Well, a traditional CAI should not be considered worry free, there's the chance it can suck up water and hydro-lock the engine.

Also, it should be up to the owner of the car to find a well engineered intake where if it is open filter it isn't a victim of heat soak. There are many badly engineered SRI's that do suck up hot air, but anytime you see a serious race car or even a well engineered street car, the filter has a cold air source.

what about a BMC/CDA what are those like with heat soak and do they soak up water??

as for soaking up water - it depends where you put your feed to the bmc cda. as the actual filter holder isnt that far away from the throttle body.

as for heat soak - i have seen them run on very busy engine bays and not had a big problem. i think the carbon has a low heat absorbtion (not sure)

but.....id stick with Js / Mugen or AEM. preferably the jap ones of thouse.lol
