Hey guys, this things been bugging me for a long time, and I think I'm needing some feedback from fellow EJ9 members.

I have a 1997 pre-facelift Honda civic EJ9. Apparently the tank size is 40litres. But when I go the the petrol station to fill up, It clicks around 30-31litres. So it appears I have a 30litre tank.

Question is, how many litres do you guys have in a full tank?
If my tank is smaller than it should be then should I get it checked out?

45 ltrs, you can get 350-400 miles from a full tank. I think when the light comes on you still have approx 30 miles left.

its more then that mate ^
How empty are you going?

Iv never seen the light come on, and I don't want to try incase i get stranded..
And I doubt there's 10litres of petrol when it hits the red line :/

Your needle is probably out mate, how do you know your near empty if you've never seen the light come on. I don't let mine come on as a habit, but sometimes i think getting low on juice near the red line, fill it up till it clicks and only manage to get say £46-47 in, on the occasions i have seen the light come on i can put £52 ish in.

Yeah theres about 40-50 miles or so in the tank after the light comes on, it says so in the manual

I got the exact same problem as Timmy here. The petrol gauge never tells the true value. You put your foot down, the needle goes down. You drive like a granny, the needle aims sky high! I think it may be something to do with the fuel pump or the sensors. I'm not sure. I've never seem the petrol light on either as I don't wanna go with the same risk also. Today I filled 30litres of v power and that's a full tank apparently. Common problem apparently to civics

Like Ally has said, my needle seems to vary all the time depending how I drive etc. I've also not seen the petrol light come on and that's when it's been on the red on the gauge, but i've got roughly 330 miles to the tank before (when I've not been going quick before).

One day i'd like to find out how far it'll go.

Yeah the needles appear to be quite inaccurate. One moment it will be sitting at half a tank then you travel 5 miles down the road and it will be sitting just above min. £49 is the maximum I remember putting in my old EJ, couldn't tell you how many litres it was (can't be bothered working it out  ) But the lads above pretty much have it bang on.

It`s simple...

get 5L canister with petrol, put it in the car and drive untill car stops :)

Pour 5 L in it from canister, drive to first petrol station to fill up and see when it clicks :)

also you will know how long you can drive when the light come on

and.......45 L in civic tank

Filled you with £52 worth of petrol today till it clicked, most I've put in ever, normaly service on tenner a week. Notice the feul gauge points higher then the full mark when its filled, normal run about at the other end of the gauge. The reserve must be 5 litres then.

Theres a petrol light on EJ9s?! Ive been way too scared to let the petrol get that low. lol. Ive seen mine really really low and theres still no light... :(

@X28 - it`s normal that feul gauge points higher then the full mark when its filled...
@thuongk20 - well it`s a Honda thing :) some EJ9 got light, some don`t, you never know untill you check for bulb and wires...
also they have problem with bouy (float bowl) in fuel tank that indicates level of petrol....
