As title, i want to try out the spoon ECU as it sounds like a pretty decent mod tempereraly(SP) And think i may enjoy it.... I will be going standalone eventually but not for a while..........

So yeah, has anyone got a prefacelift Spoon ECU for sale...

Or is there a very easy, cost effective way of fitting the facelift verion onto the pre-facelift, or this not a good idea?

get a jumper harness only 190 dollars deliverd off boomslang and that will ket u use a facelift ecu

Keep your eye out though mate, they seem to come up fairly often. Failing that, I think Bazza from VTECDirect can get hold of these, but they aint cheap:

I know mate he sold it today :( At a very good price too, well gutted. But oh well.....

If you happen to notice one fore sale throw it my way :D

Yeah unfortunatly from Bazza the prices on that are way to high for me....

They normally go for around £300-£370.........

Buy a Hondata and get it properly tuned. From what i have herd spoon ECU's are not very good i haven't herd any1 praising them yet.

My mate was talking to some1 who raced a 9 had a spoon ecu dyno'd and it made less bhp....

Do some research into it. I certainly would risk it now.

Just my take buddy.

i just bought a Spoon ECU on monday

It is the best money i have spent on my car...made a huge difference to the drive of the car...Alot faster now and alot more low down power.

Defo buy a Spoon

thanks for the advice there mate...

Hondata is way over my budget at the mo so for now just want to play around try the spoon out..... And when i do come to needing a fully mappable ECU once i prepped my built motor etc...... I will then sell the spoon so wont really loose out.....

I hear alot about certain mods etc, people opinions but sometimes you need to experience it for yourself on your own car to see..... Maybe his particular EK9 wasnt running as good as it should for what ever reason... Alot of variables at the end of the day..

Appriciate yoour comment though, something to take in :nice:

without tuning, any 'chip' program is just simply a GUESS of what will make your car run good. Youve got to realise every engines different. Running chips that werent made for YOUR car generally gives you alot more problems down the line.

i read on this website earlier this week that the spoon ECU learns as you drive...Not sure how reliable the information is mind you but i think it was from a regular poster

i would normally agree with that statement to, but in this case scenario i would of thought its safer as its a replacment ECU pre programmed for an EK9....... So surley they would all have the same pre programmed map?

So realistically it shouldnt be any more risky then OEM as the OEM cannot be remaped either....

Would spoon sell something that would cause problems?

PS.... Im not disagreeing by the way, just putting a point across, I could be wrong :)

have to agree with the above...just a wild guess but i reckon spoon know what they are doing, the only horror story i have heard is when someone with a spoon ECU went back to running a standard ecu the engine went...could have been something totally different

hmmm very interesting thoughts people....

Keep the standard ecu and buy something....... else like an air freshener.... lol

some info i found might be of some use to you.

"Spoon ecu learns it is like the oem honda but the final results are more aggressive than oem. they reccomend 98 + fuel but i have seen them run 95 all day long. the ecu leans the best map taking into account pre detination, air fuel ratio and temp etc. it starts with a basic map and keeps kinda testing the limits until it reaches limits that is to spoons spec so there more aggressive than standard. So weather or not u have oem cams or spoon etc it kinda uses what it has to get best results. if you get mod etc just reset it (turn it off!!) and it'l re learn the best maps and fuel mixs... its that good!!! so it takes into account temp etc alot more than reprogrammable ecus do as they are tuned on dyno for spec conditions... now spoon do have upper limits like if your building like a stage 3 cam type setup a remapable would be far superior but for most the spoon ecu is king...... id rather trust years of spoon engineering as apposed to most tuners..... again i speak for most people who only do basic enough mods...."

Maybe i'll buy one then!!!! lol

Having an in-depth knowledge of the Honda ECUs I can definitively say (in the nicest terms..) that statement is faar from accurate.

The hardware that does the processing IS a factory ECU, at light throttle it functions in whats called CLOSED-LOOP where it can make slight (+/- approximately 30%) fuel value to meet the 14.7 AFR that is ideal for light throttle cruising and economy. This function is also there to accomodate lower quality fuels to a point and also to correct for altitude/baromic pressure.

timing maps are fixed. Theres is no knock-sensor on the spoon ecus.. it doesnt retard timing t protect the engine.

above a certain engine load (around -5"Hg) the ecu enters OPEN-LOOP whereby the fuelling etc goes off the maps, NO short-term/long-term fuelling is taken into account. Its SET on the map thats written.

The sections of the quote regarding temperature, aftermarket ecus and dyno tunin; shows very little understanding of the functionality of a stock/aftermarket ECU in general.

Also to note, the 'scan' of a spoon ecu screen-shot LOOKS like a picture taken of a website listing several diff models/ general settings.

Ask Blinx on here what a spoon ECU is.

Thanks for that! To much information out there its hard to determine whats accurate..........

I'm happy with my car so if and when i decide to upgrade it will be a Hondata
