Last week I have changed my EK3 seats for facelift EK4 ones. Awesome! Great upgrade both in terms of looks (the interior of the car instantly looks 5 years younger) and comfort. The front seats are an easy swap. BUT it is NOT a 1 on 1 swap for the rear seats! The facelift EK4 rear seat doesn't fit in my prefacelift EK3. My EK3 rear seat has 2 hooks towards the front of the rear whereas the facelift EK4 rear seat has 1 hook more or less in the center and 2 steel things to keep the rear seat alligned, which are wider apart than on my EK3 prefacelift rear seat. There are 2 options:

  • Cut extra holes in your chassis. My EK3 with nearly 150k miles is completely rust free so didn't feel the need to create an extra risk for rust.
  • Exchange the fabric on your EK4 rear seat to your EK3 rear seat. This is what I did.

If you look at the pic of the EK4 rear seat you will notice that the rear seat is kinda like a bucket.

I think it is more comfortable so that's one disadvantage of changing the fabric.

Anyways, swapping the fabric ain't that much work.
  • Cut all the rings that keep the fabric on it's place. Watch out when cutting the rings in the center of the seat that keeps the fabric alligned that you don't cut that part of the fabric!
  • Take off the fabric
  • Do the same for the other seat
  • Pull the new fabric over the old seat. You will find that in the front corners the fabric is a tad too small. I have found that fitting the seat with that bit of the foam sticking out is not visible in the car unless your face is on the floor of your car in the rear
  • Use tiewraps to first attach the fabric in the center of the seat to keep the fabric down and alligned
  • Then do the rest of the seat all around. All holes line up perfect or almost perfect
That's it! You're done. Now go install your modded rear seat along with your new front seats and enjoy your fresh interior :nice:
