Hi guys,

Not been on in a while but lucky for me it's almost full time work/new car time! Now I change my mind about what I want all the time so I'm forever fleeting between forums and now I'm back here :nice:

I was just wondering what sort of average price EK9's fetch in various states currently? I'd want one that still had some life left in it obviously so what mileage would I be looking for?

What is the rough retail of a fresh EK9? Also considering a UKDM DC2...

Thanks for any help guys!

EDIT: Spotted this on ebay - surely not?! They say they have EK9's on the road in the UK from £3.5k.

Really depends on your budget?

Prefacelift EK9's can be had for £5k to around 6.5k. Facelifts EK9's from £6k to under £8k.

If your looking minters with very low mileage, then you can still find these in Japan, but your going to be paying a premium, as they are still very sought after in the Japan. These will be Grade 4.5's and above and your looking at easily over £10k for these ones :)

UK ITR DC2 I've seen selling from £3k (the lower price range will see ITR's with over 100k on the clocks) upto £8k (low milage examplers with like under 40k on the clocks). Great cars the ITR's, had one for 3 years :drive:

You got far more choice with finding a UK ITR, as there more of them about then a EK9. I suppose the bonus of the ITR is that is insurance would be cheaper then the EK9 :)

Good luck with your hunting :nice:

Thanks for the advice there mate.

I'm looking to spend a maximum of £6,000 and to be honest it'd be in my interests to stuck to this budget or come in below it!

I'm coming in from the VW scene so I'm a bit clueless as to what to expect when buying a civic ALTHOUGH my friend did have an EK9 shape 1.4 civic and I enjoyed the driving position and seats etc. so I know what they are like shape/interior wise.

What sort of mileage should I be looking for? I don't really care about extremely low mileage as I'll be using it daily! I'm looking to keep for three years doing about 7k a year. I'm not sure when these engines are 'past it' or when they are in their prime so any help here would be great! I was assuming somewhere around 80k miles would be reasonable?

I've had a quote on an EK9 for £700 which at 22, 1 yr NCD and 6 points (come off in Feb though) I think is decent. Other cars I'm looking at are roughly the same.

I'm assuming an EK9 is a fine daily driver and would be suitable for a 16mile round trip to work daily in traffic and then some 'tec in the evenings or weekends :nice:

The other main contender is a phase 1 TT which can be had for £6k and under. I'm assuming the civic is cheap to run and for parts when compared to the lieks of audis?

Thanks again guys!

PS - any chance of any links to decent importer sites so I can have a look and gauge prices?

You could try type-r-dunk on this forum as I would say that the majority of the EK9's imported into the country are from Duncan :)

Tourque GT has a facelift EK9 for sale at £6k...

FastJapCars.Com :: Dedicated to Japanese cars aka Duncan
Japanese performance car specialists - Torque-GT.co.uk
200bhp cars

I brought mine from Andy at 200bhp cars.

As long as the engines are well maintained/serviced, then they will last a long time. I know someone who got an ITR with 140k on the clocks and this is a regular trackday car :nice:

My EK9 is used daily and I find it ideal for my daily runner :)

Compared to my 205gti, both my ITR and EK9 has been peanuts to run in comparison.

Have a look in the for sale section, there are always EK9's for sale by forum members.

simone - very very useful post there mate!

I'd already come across FJC but I don't want to pepper them with e-mails in case I bug them since I'm not ready to order yet!

I'd also seen the facelift for £6k too. I'd actually quite like that exact car - decent mileage and cheap for a facelift!

What are the main differences between the facelift/pre-facelift interior wise? I actually prefer the pre-facelift front bumper..

For a fresh import, would it be possible to get one arranged for around £5k on the raod here in the UK?

Your friend has an EJ9 not EK9 and its an EK shape, also the interior is different.

Be sure to check that you are getting insured on an Import Type R not Import 1.6 VTI as some insurance companies don't list the Type R.

With 6k you can get a pre facelift one but if you try hard enough you can get a facelift version :)

Depending on your location Dunk is the best person to speak to.

Good luck in buying :nice:

I know the interior is different, the red interior is one of my favourite bits!

Yup its definitely an imported type r I put through for quotes, I was shocked too. A dc2 is an extra ten quid.

I'm located in Scotland!

So what is Duncans username on the forum so I could maybe have a chat and see about prices for an import?

watch out for rust starting on ukdm integras around the rear arches, rubber fitted around rear arch holds moisture and dirt which leads to rust . any imports should be rust free as no salt used on their roads , engine wise look out for smoke on v-tec . drive both before buying . imo having owned both they are very similar and comes down to which body style you prefare. happy hunting

Well what I'll likely do is look into EK9's and see what I can get with my budget as I prefer the hatch and they seem to hold their value pretty well - I'd perhaps not lose much money in a year, two or even three of ownership if I was careful. Thoughts on this? With it being an older car will it last three years fine?

UKDM Teg's, I'm a fan of the shape but I'd get bored of people telling me about how ugly they are/how much better they think an EK9 is pretty quickly. I'd still like one though so I'd look at ones that came in well within budget that were local to me so I'd have some cash to tinker with a few bits to get one looking how I wanted :)

So a facelift car has different wings, bonnet, lights, bumper and centre console. Is that all, are there no other benefits? Is it possible to put a facelift centre console in a pre-facelift car as that is the only bit I prefer :D

There are a few really nice, well maintained JDM Teg's about where I live too, not sure I'd like being the underdog from the off in a UKDM one..

Right well I've dropped Duncan an email so that is at least the ball rolling.

Hopefully he can be of assistance given my budget - he has a lot of RX's on his site for over £7k!

Are there any desirable options that were available on the EK9?

What reg's do they cover? Can you get W plate ones?

Depends on what you want really, if you are prepared to wait then I'm sure Duncan can import you something in your price range.

EK9 Rx's are face-lifts with a bit of extra guilding to them like stitched gear gaitor etc, they are the final production batch before Honda released the EP3.

If you use the 'search' option you'll find the answer to quite a few questions, but since you are new I've done the leg-work for you :p

Thanks again for the information, links and recommendations.

I've fired an e-mail off to Private Imports to see what they can do given my wish list and my budget.

Has anyone else got any advice for a potential EK9 owner? Any other with EK9 and Teg comparisons would be really good to hear as I'm still toying with a modified UKDM Teg...

Hi there
Type-r-dunk here of FJC :D. I have just added 3 new 9's today but i think they are a wee bit over your budget.
I would also just like to say Torque GT offer some very fine cars and that face-lift at £6k looks good, don't let the 84k put you off :secret:.
If you get stuck i would be happy to locate you one in Japan and bring it over for you.

All the best Duncan

Oh and thanks loads for the praise guys :nice:

whereabouts in scotland you from mate?,i've imported all my own cars,i may be able to give you a few pointers.

I'm based in Aberdeen mate.

Duncan - I sent you an e-mail earlier, hopefully you can have a read and see what you think regarding my budget and what you can offer me from Japan.

I'd snap up that £6k facelift if I was in the position to actually take delivery now, unfortunately as I said I'm waiting until September for my no claims discount, and to actually get the cash together :)

Sorry to bump this back up:

How do EK9's perform in crash tests? Are they safe as far as things go? I don't fancy driving a death trap!

I think you will be fine mate The EK9 is a thousand times better than most of the death traps on the road in terms of safty (airbags etc). I think there has been a few people on here who have crashed there EK9 on the road & track and have walked away without a scratch. Years ago I has some one ram in to the side of me I was in a EK4 & had no injurys unlike the car:((
