Problems with oil Gauges

Hi all, a few months ago i installed an oil pressure and an oil temp gauge into my ek9, They worked fine up until a few weeks ago....

Now neither work at all, sometimes they give the -- reading like no sensors are plugged in and other times the oil pres goes crazy and sits on either HI or LO. The oil temp usually hovers around 51-52c even when the car has been running for ages.

Now i think it could be the earth? Any one have any experience with this before i get under and have a look? The sensors needed earthing to the block but as alot of you know there isnt much moving room between the firewall and the oil filter so i soldered the earth's to a piece of cable and ran that up to the battery. This has been working fine for an age.

Just wondering if a faulty earth can be the issue or could the gauges be f**ked?

Thanks for your help

If they cheap guages then that would be your answer I've seen quite a few reviews educating on why you get wht you pay for with guages saying that I've got a cheap oil temp and pressure guage havent had a problem with the oil temp but the oil pressure is not good at all as it is digital and jusps too much so i guess an analogue one would be better

what gauges are they? analogue or digital?

They are digital.

Well compared to the likes of Defi they are nothing but the cheapest i found them was £80 a gauge. Doesn't seem cheap to me :((

its unlikely that both gauges are gone at same time check the earth wire and wires going the senders.
