i tried to change mine, coz im planing to put a video card in....bought the one that has 20+4 pin connector, but my motherboard only has 20 pin connector....tried to put the 20 only but the monitor is not working.. did some research and find out my PSU doesn't have a -5 volt line, which my motherboard needs (coz its an old one)....is there anyway to use this PSU to my old motherboard? or im doomed?

It should work fine. The reason 20+4 exists is to be backwards compatible with older ATX motherboards. What PSU did you get, what motherboard do you have, and what video card do you have?

well my motherboard is just a normal one that came from my crappy Cicero (here are the SPECS http://www.ek9.org/forum/off-topic/850-official-anime-thread-9.html), coz im not trying to build one just to get good graphics... The one i bought is BFG 450 watt PSU and the graphic card is Radeon HD 4650 (coz this is the only one left on the store that has AGP compatible...)

btw my monitor is not yet LCD....do you think this might be the problem?

From what i can tell, there should be no reason for to not work. Does the system power on at all?

yes the fan and lights on the computer are all on...but when i switch my monitor, you can't see nothing.....its pitch black :( but the lights on the monitor are blinking..

anyway went to the store and exchange it to a new one....im going to try one more time.

Yeah sounds more like a bad video card than a bad PSU. You may also have been plugging it in the wrong output. Did you try both. My side monitor does not start receiving any signal till it gets to Windows.

Alright! finally its working....:) the thing is...the last one i bought was already set to 230v on the back (the red switch) i didn't know what it was but didn't touch it.....so i went back to the store and exchange it to a new one....when i checked the back of the new PSU, its says 115v on the back..and it matches my old PSU.....put it in and now its working...thats the thing i was missing. Didn't know that you can switch your PSU volts, so you can use it to other countries....very lucky, it didn't damage my PC..

thanks for the help Techy, :nice:

Oh well, ****. Didn't think of that. We had some cockbites in my high school back in the day that screw with those in the labs. If you switch it to 230v, the PC will not work in North America.
