Race base

Manuel windows standard ej9 interior sure there is more like no abs srs ect

Is it not just like a poverty spec ek9 used for stripping out and racing?

It's in the name - car meant for transformation into a race car. All the bits you would normally replace in a race car were from standard car ie no Recaro seats or any other fancy bits. You can get the same kind of a deal with Imprezas and Evos in Japan, I've seen a race base Sti first hand and it had the nastiest plastic steering wheel you can imagine because they know it will be used to get the car into the workshop and then chucked in the bin. These cars are a fair bit cheaper to buy (new).

I heard they were faster......;);)

Because the car was lighter.

The purpose for Honda on making the race base was simple.

They knew that the owner of the race base will throw the interior away and install a bucket seat.

Thats why the car didn't came with recaro seats, or power windows etc. Just the ek9 original cluster.

I bought a race base around 6 years ago. And the interior was identical to a EK2 interior EK with a 1300cc motor).

Seems you guys arent too keen on a proper Racebase then?

Not these days as people want as much for them as for standard EK9s. For me I'd have preferred a race base if I could get it for £3k but for the money they go now I'd always buy a standard car, at least you have stuff to sell, race base interior is worthless (as it's meant to be).

totally agree - i've never understood why cars with less parts are worth more -the racebases, evo RS for example - even super cars with less parts cost more fgs :blabla::run:

I would never buy a racebase other than if i planned to race the car. As stated they seem to fetch silly money now so i wouldnt bother.

I'm just a sucker for something a bit different! I wouldn't change my racebase for anything :D

If I was going to rip out the seats and things then I would opt for a RB, but no point else IMO.

I love the Recaro seats, it's like being hugged by a big red chimp.

In the case of the evo - they command a higher price due to the running gear on them being far superior to the AYC rubbish normally fitted.

I can see your points. I bought my 1998 Racebase recently for £6k. Usual price of a normal EK9 I believe?

My argument for buying it, a normal EK9 comes with stuff I didnt want nore need for the purposes of my taking the car to the track. Its not a daily driver.

I guess yes I could of bought a full fat one, but the hassle of ripping stuff and selling it one wasnt something that interested me. The red interior of a the Type R range I personally feel is rancid (including the heavy red Recaro's).
I believe the normal EK9 has tinted glass for the 3 rear windows? Also not a fan of that at all.

Love that fact its lighter out the box, love the fact it has no assists and gives you a pure driving experience. Dont want to go down the major modifying route anymore, plan to just improve on it by lightening it up further.

May sound sad, but I also like the slight rarity factor, as I understand there are less racebases out there over normal EK9's?

Some would say £6k is a little steep for a ek9 now, but it really depends how genuinely clean it is, I'd pay £6k + for a real good one.

Most "mint" ek9's are actually quite flakey and scabby round the edges underneath now days

I agree with you about the tints, I much prefer clear glass

This is a really tidy example, very well looked after.

I "aim" to get the weight of the vehicle down to 900kg whist it looking like the Racebase interior and exterior is still standard. Think the RB will be a much better base to begin with to achieve that. So I guess thats some slight justification for my choice to buy one.

Will slap a thread up eventually once the car gets more interesting, see what peoples thoughts are.
