Hi all,

Been a whilst since Ive posted. I still have my 1998 EK9 Race Base, but I've had back to back issues with batteries / car not starting.

Will try and keep a long story short, I bought the car with a PC680 fitted, I am now on my 4th race battery and today after I thought the issues were resolved again Im faced with a flat battery. I work 4 days on 4 days off, my days off I rarely drive the car, to work its a 20 mile stretch on the motorway only.
The car has spent most of its life garaged way, particularly whilst Ive been faced with these battery related problems. The last 2 batteries were left fitted to the car for long lengths of time, I think by doing this I ruined the batteries because even after fully charging them they seemed to only hold charge for a few days.

My garage guys checked the starter motor and alternator and they report no issues, only thing I noticed was that when I locked the car, on the rare occasion I would come back to the car and I could hear a clicking noise from under the dash / near the steering wheel. The clicking would stop if I put the key in the car and primed the fuel pump. Removing the key the clicking continued until I disconnected the battery.

Finally got an electrician round and he found the aftermarket alarm was draining the battery, had to disconnect the alarm temporarily to resolve the issue (or so I thought).

This is a brand new PC680 and its been working fine for the past week. I find it too ironic that after my 4 days off and attempting to start the car for work Im having the same issues again. There was more clicking coming from the dash but it sounded to be near the glove box this time. Im at a loss where to begin diagnosing this again. Want to avoid calling out the electrician again but am not the best when it comes to these kinda issues.

I can charge the battery up later on today, I've purchased a multi-meter to check the battery daily to see if its dropping charge even when using it. Suspect there is something else draining the battery? Only other noteworthy item is the fact the passenger door lock can sometimes stick, Im forced to lock the door with the key from outside at the moment.

Cheers!

Could you not fit a quick release battery terminal and take the battery off when not in use?

Sounds like its not getting enough use to charge the battery. Have you tried a multimeter to make sure your getting 12v when not in use and 14+ when the car is running?

Yeah I may need to look into that, although Ive only started having this issue say over the last year or so.

Multimeter should arrive by tomorrow, lets see what it says. I the battery on charge today, after 4 hours it was still charging so it was definitely flat.
