Morning :)

Raceland coilovers has anybody ever used them ? (yes i know there cheap) a friend of mine has bought some a couple of weeks ago for his EK4 and he seems really happy with them , just wondering if anybody has had any first hand experience.

Any info would be awesome,

Thinking of getting some for the EP3 , don't use the car as much as i used to because I've had a new golf , so only really use it for weekends , the odd road trip and back and to from work at weekends.

Cheers

If it's for handling, don't buy them.

It you just want cheap lows then I suppose they would be ok but I wouldn't be putting them on for any great handling gains

I've got just bilstein b4's on it at the moment with standard springs and it just all feels a bit tired , having driven my friends car the ride is surprising comfortable having had coilovers on my old car and the ride being bone shattering uncomfortable i really was surprised , it seems to handle its self rather good in the corners too , gave you the confidence to push a little harder and remained flat.

My mate had these on his ep3, were totally rubbish, went low but creaked and banged everywhere.

We had them stripped and greased numerous times and made no difference. In the end he binned them and got secondhand BC coilovers

Why take a gamble with your suspension, hold out for some decent coilovers. BC, Meister R, YellowSpeed etc.

Cheers , the only reason i asked is because i dont really use the car anymore , whats a set of yellowspeed ?£1000? just dont want something like that on if the car is just sitting there 5 or 6 days a week.

Cheap coilovers --> No...just no.
Agreed...

A few years ago I wanted a lower ride height and better handling for my old EJ6 (USDM) hatch so I purchased them, installed and lowered the car quite a bit. I had them for a little over a year and didn't like them much. You could definitely tell the low quality after driving on them for a while. The ride was not nearly as nice or as refined as stock (or a quality coilover). They wouldn't dampen bumps or road imperfections at higher speeds (over 45mph) and at lower speeds in town they were fairly choppy and brutal. They were really only decent between about 30 and 45 mph on good roads. Handling/cornering was better but I give much more credit to the lowered ride height instead of the coilovers. The car still had a fair amount of body roll. Bottom line... cheap parts are just that, cheap parts. I certainly wouldn't buy them again. In fact I've had my EK9 for almost a year now and it's been on basic stock USDM suspension. It's way too high but I'm not changing it until I can get some quality coilovers on.
P.S. I'm going with AMR Engineering this time.

I agree with what everyone else is saying. I've had my Ep3 since 2007, been on the forums since then and have heard nothing but bad things about those coils. The suspension geometry for the Ep3/dc5 is already touchy with decreasing ride height so it's best to spend a little more. My current set up is OK, but I rarely use my car. I plan to track much more in the near future so I will be spending a good deal on coils, other necessary bits for an aggressive look while not sacrificing too much from stock settings. It's gonna be pricey but worth it.:nice:
