Saving for an Integra

Hi all,

hopefully this type of thread doesn't come across very often and hopefully it'll help myself and possibly a few others in the future.
The last two years I've had too pretty much step away from Honda in general as I lost my license at 18 "completely my fault" and of course being from NI my insurance was sky high to begin with so naturally it shot way and far out of my reach! I'm now turning 21 in May & I've rang around a few insurance companies and have decided that i can afford to legally insure an Integra in the summer.

So, my question is this, how much should I budget for a "good", "tidy" DC2, preferably 98' Spec. I don't need it to be immaculate or pristine showroom condition as ill put time into it anyway. But just as a guidance.
I hopefully will be able to purchase one from someone on this site.

Sorry about the lengthy read :blinx:

Feel free too discuss here or PM me your opinions.
Thanks in Advance,
Ryan. :nice:

3.5k - 4.2k for a 96
4.5k - 5.5k for a 98

That should get you into a Integra with a full history and averagely ok miles and one you can drive through the summer, rather than fix it.

Don't be fooled by cheap ads, if its too good to be true it generally is. Its an old market and a lot of crap about mate.

Take a look at Ep3's you may find depending on your area they're cheaper to insure, you can pick one up really cheap. Good luck!

Pretty much spot on, although you'll not find many decent examples in the North or South of Ireland IMO, England has generally better cars to offer.

A "GOOD" example of a DC2 is increasingly hard to find, I ended up looking in Japan for mine.

x2 this very few clean examples left on this side of the water.

Thanks for the replies men.!

I do agree that clean integras are few and far between this side of the water, I wouldnt hesitate to buy from England etc. Ill be travelling back and forward from Derry to High Wycombe till july anyways.

Ill also consider EPs a bit more too if thats the case Rybean, thanks.!

Any more info greatly appreciated :D

A good place to look and learn everything about dc2's is itr-dc2.com loads of info prob everything you need to know

Went and Registered over there now too! thanks for that Rossco.

I wouldn't bother with an EP... Unless it's smashed up with a good running gear.

Why do you say that? Not a bad car at all for the money and respond well to mods..... Had one with just and exhaust and induction kit and it went very well for what was done to it. Not as raw as a ek or dc2 but still very capable with a few mods!!
Had all 3 and I wouldn't class the ep3 as a bad car just more refined and not quite as good in the bends but still hands very well compared to its rivals

For an everyday, practical all rounder its probably great. But everyone on here is an enthusiast, and the EP3 is just not an enthusiasts car, in my opinion.

Thanks guys. Would it be worth even buying an EP3 for say a month or so then? I might not take to it but it could be worth a try. Do they hang around when reselling or if it wasn't for me would I be able to shift it on without much delay? Assuming its a clean example of course.

A good EP3 sells well, especially since there are quite a few dogs around.

To be honest, If you are using the car everyday and you don't intend on track it, I would say the EP3 is the more suited car. Stock ones are great driving things, my mum has a Cosmic Grey, 2006 anniversary model with just over 50k miles, drives with nice refinement, pulls well and the handling surprised me feeling so far away from the tarmac.

And me and my dad have JDM DC2's, although as a drivers car the DC2 definitely is in a league above IMO.

I have an ep3 and a dc2.

The ep3 is tidy as my daily, it's a nice car and do like it, but has nothing on the dc2.
Depends what you want from the car I suppose but the dc2 in my opinion of course is a much better drivers car, just much more fun too be In.

Think I'll just hold out for the right DC2 then! I appreciate the help.
- I also noticed there Kipper you mentioned looking in japan for yours, what site/company did you use? & did you find getting it too NI difficult at all.
Thanks again.

Yeh I did, it costs a bit more than buying something already in the UK for a few years, On the road, expect to start at 5.5k for a '96 epec for anything in half decent condition/low-ish km's.

Jm-imports is who I used but a guy has recently ordered a '98 with Torque GT on ITR-DC2, basically pick your car and pay the balance and they get it on the road.

The DC2 is the car I wanted, nothing else (in realistic terms) so I was prepared to pay a bit more for a good one.

But you can find some very nice '98 specs as highlighted above for 5-5.5k in the UK already :nice:

Now's a good time to import. If I had bought my nissan now rather than last april I would have saved almost £1000. Always good to keep an eye on exchange rates if you do ever consider importing.

Sorry about the late reply here folks. Been flat out trying to organise myself for moving back to Ireland in the next couple weeks.

I would never have even thougt about taking the exchange rate into consideration though thankyou for mentioning it!!

Jdm ep3 would maybe be up your street 220bhp standard with LSD etc if your looking something a little more refined, had a dc2 track car last year had a fully built engine in it but for the road it wasn't great, going to gym in a caged track teg with bucket seats was a night mare haha... What's your budget? Pm me if you like

I wouldn't let high mileage put you off, so long as there is regular maintenance and no blue smoke should be ok!
Rust is the bigger problem in my eyes, but then I'm useless when it comes to repairing bodywork!
I just imported a 98 spec from japan via new era. It did carry a £2000 premium over most things in the uk, but I'm willing to spend it because the car was unbelievably clean!
