Just wondering if anyone has an opinion on the 04 onwards Seat Ibiza Cupra 1.9TDi? Standard: 160bhp & 243lb-ft, 1175kg, 0-60 of 7.4, 51mpg, insurance group 15. £300-450 remap with a filter as a little extra takes it to 190-195bhp & 300lb-ft with a 0-60 of around 6.8. Its really tempting me away from an ek9 as my next car :nono:

DONT DO IT MAN,, i have a bora tdi, its ok but its so flipping boring drivinga diesel and teh fuel is so damned expensive for them, ,
also dont be surprised if your clutch gives out and you need a new dual mass flywheel, (£360 for parts only and thats TRADE)!!
cam belt kit is £90,,
diesels are not cheap to run cos teh parts are so damned expensive, thinking of selling my 2000 bora dti soon and getting a civic eg or ek4 as a daily drive..

Yer there are of course downfalls. The fun of actually driving it apart from straight line speed when rolling won't even compare to my 4 let alone a 9. The clutch would eventually go as well at 300lb-ft and that gets expensive. I guess it's the lazy option of having all tht torque low down without having to drop a gear or 2 in a 9

yeah i had a polo tdi 100bhp, got it chipped to 130bhp and to be honest the torque was well nice ! but doesn`t hold a candle to the 9 imo:nice::D

I had an fr130 but had it mapped to 185bhp, i also put a cupra pd160 intake, and cupra brakes etc and it was awesome fun, handled alot better than my old ek4 vti, only thing was that in the wet they're bloody awful! but the fuel economy was incredible! you thought about a fab vrs?? and maybe mapping it?

Stay away fro diesel cars there no fun stick wit getting an ek9!

Not a chance of a skoda, just the badge alone puts me off even though they can be reasonable. It's literally out of the two atm, with the EP3 as an outside choice. The outright price inc the map and possible clutch on the cupra would be a fair bit more than a 9. Need to book a test drive sometime soon...

Lol fair do's mate! they're vag now so not as bad as they used to be! Yea its the badge and that cake advert that puts me off mate.

Yea i'd go for a 9 but, if you do get the 160cupra get it mapped by celtictuning that's where i got my 130 done and once mapped was awesome and never had any probs mate!
Good luck anyway

oh yea and their mapping for all vag's there was only 300 quid!!
But don't get one lol, 9's are cheaper! quicker! HONDA! and it'l hold its value a hell of a lot better than a Ibiza

ibizas have wiring issues too bloody nightmare they are cheaper than their vw counterparts for a reason

I appreciate not quite the same car, but my mate drives a new golf TDi sport, I know they share a whole bunch of components, and it's the VAG group 1.9 TDi engine he's got. Yes the torque is nice, but there isn't any urgency about the acceleration like a Honda. I am however constantly surprised how fast it goes around corners, the handling is very flat and neutral and when grip is lost it is very predictable. My biggest problem with the car is, like the Seat, it claims something around the 50mpg mark, however on a recent 1000 mile plus trip round Europe, with plenty of time spend cruising in 6th gear the trip average was around 37 mpg. When he floors it the computer says he gets as little as 15 mpg. With the price of diesel being totally through the roof right now, what's the point in buying one unless it delivers the kind of fuel economy it promises ?
That's my 2 cents any way, hope it helps you to decide to buy a 9 !

Yer cheers for that chris. Im getting a lot of mixed opinions atm and the most worrying is faults with the Ibiza. Spot on about holding it's value btw joey :nice: I duno im probably just being really lazy in all of this in that the 9 would always require attention and awarness, you can't just sit back and relax (i sound about 40?). Plenty of time to decide at least :)

I know some of you have a badge Phobia about Skoda but I bought a VRS brand new in 2005 and had Angeltuning remap it to about 190bhp/ 295lb torque. Brilliant car. 50mpg 115 year tax. No wet grip because of the torque and handling not up to hot hatch standards, but every bit as fast in a straight line as a UK 2.0 CTR. I sold it after 2 1/2 years as I work away and didnt need it.
Back next month and have a black EK9 coming from Japan so I can see what all the fuss is about:nice:

Yea the torque was the best bit by miles!
I've not made up my mind about a ek9 yet, i do over 600 miles a week and it costs me **** loads in my 1.6 mivec and the nine will be pretty much the same.. and i need better not the same lol. its just costing me an arm and thats all that is holding me back from it atm!
Good luck with your 9! they looks sweet in black too:nice:

my mate shas a skoda fabia 1.9tdi and it was remaped and had loads of **** done by last owner, and i cant pull away from it in my 9! was shocked!

I wouldnt really be that shocked, since it will have more power and loads n loads more torque. Once you come to corners but there like boats, my mate used to have one:shocked:

He had it from new and had alsorts of problems with it. Within 20000miles he had gone through 6 sets of tyres, new turbo, 2 water pumps, front wheel bearings n couple other faults! Sold it now drives a brand new CTR :D

As for driving the cupra diesel there just so boring, they might be quite quick but the lack of revs and not so excellant handling just wouldnt cut it for me.

Your mate was very unlucky. I had one from new, front tyres (Continental) lasted 16000 miles and that was with a heavy right foot. No probs at all with car in 33000 miles. Remap actually improved MPG.
Its a Diesel hence lack of revs but its got more than twice the torque of an EK9. Its a comletely different driving style to a revvy VTEC, they are great motorway cars but your right about the handling.
