Soo, I just got a new job that is a longer drive and I want to keep my civic but I dont want to use it day to day.
I am looking for something that will do 50mpg+ cheap, reliable, comfortable but under 2.5k.

I am looking for a few ideas this is not a wanted thread :p

Thank you :)

I've generally had VAG dailies, there are a good few cars that will fit the bill for you. Currently I have a 56 plate Passat Sport TDI, that was £3k and does 50-55mpg, very comfy and practical etc.

Before that I had an Ibiza, that was under £2k and would do up to 70mpg on a run, miss that car but a kid on the way meant it had to go!

Before that I had a Bora, that was £2.5k and did 55mpg etc

Basically anything with a PD130 in it would be what I'd recommend

As said above anything with the vag 130PD engines are quite good. Fairly reliable (as far as diesels are concerned) Quick, plus they dont have DPF's to worry about. However the cheaper it is the more miles its likley to have covered therefore possibly less reliable.

Also i rate te PSA Groups HDi engines quite highly. I currently run a peugeot 307 HDi 110 daily.
Amazing on fuel and cheap to buy. £2500 would buy u a clean, low milage example that should be fairly reliable. I got mine for £1000 on a 06/55 reg with 100k on the clock but its been brilliant. Minus wear and tear age related issues.

Obviously you cant always get something thats going to be all three of the things u want from the car.

Also maybe worth considering a Vectra C or Astra H 1.9 CdTi. If i dont get a shogun im going togo for a Vectra Cdti 150.

What kind of driving is it? Mainly motorways? Go for diesel if its more constant speed journeys. They arent any cheaper to run around town apart from cheaper road tax.

I've got a Fabia vrs tdi as my daily. Great little car. Been pretty cheap to run for me

Tbh I wouldn't own anything other than jap,Toyota avensis,Mazda 626,nissan primera, nissan almera, all can be had for less than your budget and better than a **** vag. I've a daihatsu yrv best wee runaround ever, if it's a smaller car your looking and diesel Toyota yaris etc etc

I have recently landed myself a new job as well. Bought an almera 2.2 dci as my daily. They go pretty cheap and will give you over 50 mpg easily.

Why are vags ****? Lol. Am a big honda fan and have had quite a few Hondas. But my daily is a 115bhp mapped to 150bhp bora and it does the job grand. Am not a lover of vag tbh I don't enjoy driving it half as much as the civic but there still not **** lol

I was looking an old VW jetta yesterday.

There's one on Pistonheads at the minute, hardly reliable but 1.3 should be good on fuel and classic insurance.

If it would have to be reliable I'd opt for a Jazz. They're pretty decent in terms of consumption too.

If it should also be a bit of fun...don't shoot me: Panda 100hp maybe? Fuel consumption is decent, light car with 6 gears and 100hp <1000kg and appearantly sporty handling. Plus should be cheap to buy.
