Short Shift Rattling

Hi,

I know similar things have been asked before but just wanted to know if anyone has had the exact problem.

I had a Buddyclub short shift kit fitted at the weekend by a garage whilst it went in for a few other things. About a day later I noticed the shifter starting to make a metallic rattling noise but it only happened occasionally. I assumed that the shifter must be just catching the exhaust.

On the way home from work today the rattling turned into violent vibrations (could hardly keep the thing steady whilst holding it) and at the same time became really hard to change gear and when you could get a gear it was difficult to tell weather you'd just put it in 1st, 3rd or 5th.

I'm still thinking that its catching the exhaust and was sort of knocking it back out of gear with the vibrations.

I have a Spoon B-Pipe, so wondering if anyone else has this set-up and maybe has had this problem?

Only really asking as I haven't got anywhere to jack the car up and have a look until the weekend and have got to make a trip to Birmingham before then so want some ideas of what to look for if its not the exhaust causing the issue

Thanks a lot,

Sam

this happens to mine all the time, it is likley to be the shifter hitting the exhaust, i have cought the centerbox on speed bumps before and it has pushed up on the exhaust making gear changes dificult but it seemed to sort its self out. definetly jack the car up to have a look but i wouldnt worry mate.

Mines rattles aswell mate most when im between 2-3k revs and 5-7k i think the gear knob just doesnt sit right and rattles i just keep my hand on it seems to stop the noise but other than that no other problems and mines has been on for about 6000 miles

It can also happen when the shifter bushes are far too stiff, had some solid ones on my old em1 and they used to rattle/vibrate horrendously...

Check out if shift lever ball seat (a little plastic thing) is broken!

Cheers guys, still not had a chance to look yet but think it is hitting the exhaust as you can hear it from outside the car as well. I think the shifter bushings are ok, I had Energy ones put in a while ago and have been fine up before installing the short shift. I will check the shift lever ball seat as well in case it has snapped although it shouldn't have as I put a new one in at the same time as changing the bushings
