Does anyone know if the Spoon Sports 4x100 brake rotor is 280mm or 282mm? In other words, 11" or 11.1"? Thanks!

Part #: 45251-4H1014

I would guess 282mm, but why would you want to or need to by spoon discs?

It's not so much I want to buy Spoon discs as I want to verify the size. I'm finding conflicting info that they are are either 280mm or 282mm.

Since I'm on a 4 lug set-up, I'm thinking of using mini cooper rotors as they are 4x100 and 280mm. However, some say the extra 2mm will cause the brake pad to hang over a bit causing a safety issue, tapering with the pad, etc.

If I can verify Spoon's rotors are 280mm, then this issue would have been taken into account and is a non issue with the Spoon calipers.

I'm 99% sure that the spoon calipers use 282mm disc set up, but someone with them can confirm. I personally never had a set.

If you using 282mm calipers on 4x100 hubs you can use MG ZR 180 discs, these are widely available in UK but I'm not so sure about the USA.

Yeah id say he will struggle finding some mg discs in cali lol

Why not just email spoon and ask?

The spoons are def. 282mm but you can use the mini 280's with no problem (apart from filling up the larger stud holes). Normally the pad will sit just below that 1mm tapered edge of the 282mm disc and the pad doesn't use that. Now with the mini it will sit exactly level at the edge of the disc so thats actually just perfect:

Also if you don't like to machine rings to fill up the bigger studholes of the Mini discs you can use nr. 12 of a 4th gen and cut it in 8 pieces, it will do just the same.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Ellis:
I have tried contacting several Spoon authorized dealers with no success. I do have an email into Spoon Sports Europe and still waiting to hear back.

Yeah, MG rotors would be difficult to source here in the states. I checked out the link you gave and that may be an option. However, the 25mm thickness when new was a problem with some old rotors I had. I couldn't get the rotor centered enough to fit NEW brake pads. The pads were too thick. I have the 3mm spacer and the washers, but I couldn't get it to work.

NLek:
Can you explain a little more about machining rings? Also, #12 on the diagram has to be cut into 8 pieces and slipped over the studs?

Yes you can cut nr 12 in 8 pieces of 5mm and slip it over the stud and the mini disc will sit perfectly and snug fit.

Thanks for the clarification. It looks like I may have to check out some junkyards since it's no longer available through Honda.

If you want, I can supply the 282x23 discs redrilled to 4x100.
You're looking around £90.00 plus shipping (from the UK!) This would be around £45.00

Just picked a new one up at the local dealer today, they ordered it for me together with other stuff...so still available. :)

Also did a measuring on where the brakepads sit exactly on a 282mm 4x100 disc (brand new set):

You can see the pads sitting ever lower (at least.5mm) then the tapered edge of the disc:

The tapered edge is about 1.3mm:

It turns out the pads sit about total of 1.9mm lower than the disc, so even with using a 280mm disc the pad will sit slightly lower the disc. :)
Btw the Mini discs have less taper, about .9mm

Prelude rotors have wrong offset, then you have to work the calipers. ;-)

NLek:
Interesting. Can you supply me with the part number you used at your dealership? Maybe I'm not looking at the right part.

@Sarah: 51398-sa5-000 I used Lings to find the number.

@Kulo: That make sence as Prelude Rotors have the same offset as ITR Rotors, 4x100 hubs though have different offset so you need different discs. Spoon 4x100 Rotor also has the wrong offset, thats why they supply a small spacer to be put between hub and disc to get the offset right.

NLek:
Thanks! But no luck here in the states. That part is Discontinued. :angry2: To bad Honda can't just order parts worldwide.

Also, thanks for all the pictures you posted showing the rotors and taper. It's one of the reasons the ek9.org community is the best!

You're welcome.
It should be easy for you to find someone over there who can machine them for you at a reasonable price. Only have to do it once. Here you have the specs:

Outer dia 16.0mm
Inner dia 12.2mm
Height 5.8mm
8 pieces
