I've had a look through the site and done some searches so don't flame me too badly if this is an FAQ...
It's been too long since I had Honda goodness in my life, having owned couple of EGs a 91 CRX then an EP3 my soul has been polluted by a 200SX then a STi.
So to return to a life of righteous VTEC sanity I'm planning on getting an EK chassis to use as a track-day and sprint car, basically following the pattern of the Buddy Club Civic Cup cars.

The question is, would I be better to get a 1.4SE and build it up to track spec, or do I need to get a VTI or even an EK9 (which I think will be out of my budget)?

I want to stick with a 1.6 so that I'm in a good category for MSA events.
Engine, gearbox, brakes and suspension upgrades will need to be done regardless of model, so on the surface the cheaper 1.4SE model would present itself as the cheapest option.

Or am I missing something?

Cars are so cheap at the moment that, unless your enjoyment is in the actual building of it, you'd be better off buying an already log-booked car.

What events are you looking to do? And what is your budget?

If you bought an EK9 you wouldn't need to do any engine, gearbox or suspension upgrades as they're very competitive right out of the box. Don't be so quick to jump the gun and think that OEM is inferior to aftermarket or unsuitable for competition use.

Nice shell that, thanks for the quick reply.

The build is part of the fun for me, and would also allow incremental development as the budget became available. As for the Budget it starts off on what I can get for my STi v5 and from all of the bits I currently have up for sale, so maybe 5-6K then budgeting a development fund from my salary.

I don't want to do anything particularly serious with regards to racing, track days for me to learn the car and sprints to get some time figures to see how far off the pace I am!

I am not dismissing OEM, rather just following the Civic cup pattern as to what to change. I am working on the assumption that I can't take to the track that which I cannot afford to loose, and if I put the car into the wall in Rockingham I would be able to reshell a "bitsa parts" car easier than an EK9.

Ah I see, you can get an EK9 shell for £600'ish when they come up. Livvy usually has one every few months and since they are fresh unregistered imports they are rust free and good condition. Here's a link: Breaking

Great link, that's bookmarked :D
I would need a registered car as a trailer isnt really practicable, but with that link I should be able to get some of the bits I need to turn a base chassis into something useful. While I'm waiting for the Subaru to sell I may get myself an engine to start with, things like crank triggers need to be fabricated :D

Just keep in mind that an EK9 chassis is much stiffer than any other EK/EJ chassis when making a decision.
