Hey there

Of late, my JDM EK4 has developed a minor but disturbing issue when starting up. It'll crank once before pausing for a split second before cranking again and then firing up. The strange thing is, this doesn't happen all the time but only intermittently.

I've checked the battery and replaced the spark plugs. The issue is still there. I doubt there is anything wrong with the starter motor as the cranking is still as strong as ever. Some said it could be due to a faulty component in the distributor but the thing is, the car feels totally fine while driving. I've also checked with my tuner (I have a Unichip on my car) but he said it's quite unlikely to be due to the remapping.

Anyone has any idea what the cause of the issue could be?

I have the same problem but have never really paid too much attention to it. Ive got an ek3 which had the problem before it was modified so you can pretty much eliminate the chance of it being a remap issue. Do you put a little throttle on when you start the engine up? or even push the clutch in instead of keeping it in neutral? Ive put 135,000 miles on my car and it hasn't caused me a problem yet (touch wood) so I hope that ease's your mind a little lol

I don't touch the gas pedal when starting up the car. As for the clutch pedal, I tried starting with and without clutching in and the 'issue' happens regardless of the clutch pedal position. Anyway, as what you'd mentioned, it hasn't caused me any problem except some sleepless nights.
