Stereo install issues with wiring...

Took an old head unit out today, always had the fault that it could be turned on even with no keys in, anyone found out that the yellow switched 12v was wired into the red permanent 12v hence issue, hoped this was just a previous idiots wiring, however getting the multimeter on the wires the yellow switched isn't giving power at all in any setting.

So question is, any idea why this might be or is there another feed I can take the switched from? The clock is just by the side and has a yellow switched that isn't on with the ACC but is on the next ON setting. Never sit with the stereo on anyway so would this be ok to feed off?

Any help appreciated...

Depending on year, your switch live is likely to be blue ;)

Aside from the 8 speaker wires I have black, red, yellow and white all with silver stripes on, the switched wire on the clock is yellow too as I checked with the multimeter. Car is an R plate 97 EK3 UKDM...

I'm pretty sure it was blue on my 99 EJ6. I tested each wire with a multimeter to identify which one was the constant live and which was the ignition live.
