swap or rebuild?

hi guys ..
well i'm new ..and i love my little civic
i been working on it for couple of months now..and it's slowly coming along..
in the near future(5-6 months) i'm planning on working on my engine..which has no major problems other then small leaks and 133xx miles on it, well my question is what do u guys think its better? .. i dont really wanna spend over 2k on swapping engine so what engine shud i get.. i dont want anything too too powerfull, i aint trying to race ..i just want my civic to run smooth you know.. or shud i just rebuild my engine and add stuff to it?
im little car illiterate so you guy's help would be appreciated

What engine do you have now? I see you are in Cali, so I guess you do not have an EK9 Type R (?).....

If so, then maybe swap in a B16A ....
