Tegiwa manifold fitting help

Hi everyone, it's my first time changing a manifold on an ek9. I just wanted to check, there is a gap between tegiwa manifold and the JDM cat, I just wasn't sure whether I put in the bolts and tighten to pull these together as there isn't much give. I'll try to post a picture, any help appreciated.

There is that option but I didn't want to run a decat pip as it should fit with the standard ek9 cat and my b pipe and fujitsubo exhaust.

I can push them together and bolt it on but I just wanted to check whether a gap is normal? It would take two to push it together and then put the spring bolts in - I just didnt know whether it should be such a tough job or whether there should be no gap at all. The spring bolts are a bugger!

Saying that, my support bracket for the tegiwa manifold also has a gap of around an inch or twp. I have the 98 spec bracket but the manifold hang tab is about an inch or two away from it to be of any use. Anyone else had this experience?
 
Will try them. Here's a pic of the bracket gap.

I've just been looking at some of my photos and the cat sits at about the same place as yours. I don't have the gap when it comes to fitting so not sure why you have one.

The bracket never lines up so I wouldn't worry about that.

In your first picture is the manifold bolted up top?
 
The bolts at the top were hand tied - even with it tightened there is a gap.

I can put the bolt springs on and tighten these but suffice to say it took some elbow grease as there is only so much give between the b pipe and header. Bit concerned that yours had no gap. Did you just manage to put the bolt springs on without pulling the two flanges together tightly?

Its all together now but im concerned that it shouldnt have to be tightened like this.
 
It butts together easily on mine but to do the bolts up, I have to use mole grips to compress the springs so there is enough bolt poking through. Also sometimes use the mole grips help to clamp the flanges just to stop it dropping away.

Yeah is a bit odd. I guess the rest of the system is shifted now. Does the exhaust tip sit further back now? If its no different then maybe it had just moved away after you'd undone it.
 
I did have to saw through the old rusted spring bolts to release the old manifold so maybe. I do not have a ramp so cannot see how the rest of the exhaust sits, may have a poke around under to see if the fixings are causing the tension.

Its tightened up as much as the spring bolts allow, just not sure how much of a seal it will create. Do you have a picture of it installed so I can see how the flanges sit together? Once all tightened up i think I can still see the donut gasket slightly.
 
Dont take this the wrong way but why get a performance header if your gonna run a cat?

I guess getting an mot would be hard unless you have a "mate"?
 
Do you know if the manifold is brand new or a 1st gen job?

I know there were some issues with the fitment of the mk1 toda rep that they sorted with the 2nd gen one they brought out a year or 2 ago

I don't have a picture to hand but it sounds about right with being able to see some of the donut gasket.
 
@Tadman - the car is currently declared off road while I do maintenance jobs on it and therefore it needs an MOT at some point.

@ColbyCol the manifold is a later one and all the holes line up fine. I bought this quite a while after initial release.

@robbieD Thanks - I suspect that its just how the rest of the exhaust is hung, will have a look to see if thats the case. At the moment I am just doing some maintenance on the radiator fan while I had it out to give me room to take the manifold out.
