ive been the told that the aem v2 is the best, does anybody else agree or have a different opinion on this????

depends on mods, there is no such thing as a "best part" when it comes to mods like intake/exhaust etc...

well lad i had lots of different induction kits and ave to say the v2 is best ....

What do you value more, top end power and throttle response or lower end power and torque?

I heard the ram on the V2 is too long and you lose power cause of the effort the engine has too make to suck in the air? Think the J's is suppose to be est open filter type...

I think on a street car as a first mod you should get a spoon drop in filter and remove the resonator.

Its cheap and you will not have the problems with heat soak.

On the J's E.g if your sat in traffic for a while it will het up and when you drive on the air will pick up some of that heat.

Plus the AEM is a long ram so you dont wanna be going through puddles.

There are so many option the best thing to do is set a budget and use of car.

Like if your skint and its an all year street car get a drop in filter.

If your rich and build up the rest of your engine aswell go for ITB.

But hey if i was you and you have around £200 to spend i would get the J's !

im just looking for the best all round job really, a few people have been tlking about a apexi drop in one or a spoon one but i dono where to find a spoon one in ireland

is it really worth spending £80 on a spoon panel filter ? will you notice anything diffrent atal ?

With the resonator removed I'd definately say yes. Ever better, get a direct flow pipe aswell - supposedly one of the best setups out there

Id say not....

I had a spoon drop-in in the DC2 & it made the car slower:shocked:

Lost a load of midrange torque & gained wooly throttle response & no more top end power. Very disappointing:nono: This was despite ECU reset etc etc. Miraculously the car perked up again with the stock filter...

Id suggest leaving it stock, or going for a Mugen CAI if there are further breathing mods planned:nice:

If you have the time and patience, what about the j's intake with a custom box around the filter with a cold air feed??

 I'm sorry but I couldnt stop laughing when I read this lol! Totally bagged SPOON!

Anyway,

Usually when you reset the ECU, your car goes slower anyway since the ECU has lost its past monitoring records. The Stock ECU is a self-learning type and needs data to optimise everything. I suggest that you DONT need to reset the ecu and just run it in for a few days.

You'll get most results by adding a higher flowing filter and adding the SPOON direct flow pipe + resonator removed on a stock ecu.

With any intake, you wont get the best out of it until you tune it. The Stock ECU was programed for the stock intake's specific design, chamber and pipe sizing and airflow behaviour.

Every intake has its CFM flow rate. An aftermarket ECU will open doors to more intake choices out there that will have more potential and perform better than the stock intake + mods.

Intake design will determind where power and torque is made. Thats why Dino asked 'what is your goal?'

:D

I didnt know how to do an ECU reset when I first got the Spoon i must admit. It was almost a "first, imperative breathing mod" when i bought the car.

Little did i know eh? I thought a reset would sort it when i found out how to do it, but only refitting the stock filter returned my cars pep

Maybe they do "work" with resonators ripped out/aftermarket ECU etc etc, BUT as a direct replacement to the stock filter they are a waste of your hard earned IMO:nono:
