The Falken RT-615, Hankook RS2, Bridgestone RE-11, Toyo R1R have all been bested..

The ultra high performance street tire category; IE the ones with 200-180 wear ratings that you can still daily drive, have been competitive for years. There's nothing that affects a car's performance more than a good set of tires.

And according to Grassroots Motorsports, who do frequent testing, the current king in this category is the Kuhmo Ecsta XS. I had thrown the name around before knowing it was a good tire, but I didn't know until now that it beats out today's newest tires like the Bridgestone RE-11 and the Yoko AD08.

Both tires just mentioned are very, very good, especially the new AD08, but the Kuhmo XS beats them both.
And the Kuhmo is in the same boat as the RT615, RS2, and Z1 Star Spec as they are all the budget tires in the $90 US range.
Toyo, Bridgestone, and Yokohama seem to be about $30 dollars more for the same size tire.

So for everyone who thinks the Hankook RS2 is the super tire, I would actually rate it last in this grouping just mentioned. The Falken RT-615 is also no longer the best choice on a budget.

I would like to note that all these tires are close in performance, none are really bad. Each tire still has it's merits, for example if you need and stable tire for track day's, the Azenis is still a very stiff and consistent tire, but doesn't grip as quite hard as new offerings. For the record, the Bridgestone RE-01R is a fast tire, but is less availabe and performs worse than the newer RE-11, so I won't talk about it much. The Dunlop Z1 Star Spec and the Hankook RS2 are both slower, relatively underperforming tires.

But if you're in the big category of people wanting a high performance street tire, especially on a budget, the XS is it. If that's unavailable the Yokohama AD08 is the next best thing.

The bottom three shown have 200 wear rating compared to the 180 ratings of the other tires.

for u.k problem is that just about every single 1 of them tyres (apart from rs2) ISNT available in u.k and if you can get them imported cost absolute fortune

all them tyres are top of the game in that market sector, kumho has really pumped and pushed to get this level (big marketing and advertising campaign which most prob will have noticed over last 12-18 months

if i can find someone who is real good to deal with in u.s ill happily try them kumho (run a lesser kumho now after reading reviews and speaking to people but was dissapointed)

Nice update dino!! I being a tireslut really enjoyed the read, i know the rs2 was never equal pound for pound but for a long time it was the low price leader and clear choice for anybody concerned with finances.

find me any of the others for the same money as the RS2 and i'll buy em :) (in the uk that is)

Hit the nail on the head iceman! UK just doesnt get the good tyres :mad::mad:, hadnt even heard of some of those. Good reading though Dino.

the only kuhmo tyres we get in the uk are complete rubbish.......

ive imported few sets AD07 in past, loved them, just couldnt afford them after a while at £440 a set collected for 16" back then

tried to import azenis good few times over last couple years (actually paid few companies in u.s) but then told they suddenly had problem shipping to u.k

had rs2 imported before ever launched in u.k before most knew what they were, first impressions werent great but after few trackdays loved them (these simply need heat and car setup to maximise contact patch to really work), now readily available in u.k hard to beat in u.k i terms of value, grip and availability

not tried any bstones personally although always wanted to try re01r and re11 when it came out

Potentially great news for you UK guys. Hankook has come out with the RS-3, a high performance 140 wear rating tire. It's like a stiffer, grippier, RS-2 with better tread blocks and high temperature capabilities, as far as I have researched. It's very new and the smallest size is 225/45/15. Which means it's directed at the race crowd.

Hopefully the UK will be able to get it like they do the RS-2.

dino, i contacted hankook uk when rs3 was announced late last year/early this year and was told they had no plans to launch in u.k

when the rs2 was 1st launched over here it wasnt official, was just imported by few companies privately but was huge success so became popular and was launched by hankook then officially i beleive

If you don't mind me asking how or where did you import them from?

I need to new tyres shortly and would ideally want to get RE-11.

I have contacted Nengun, Greenline Motorsport and Tire Rack.

Still waiting on repsonses though. A member on itr-dc2 has been in contact with Tire Rack regarding shipping to the UK, 'DCDan'

"They'll ship over a set of 195/50/15 for about £370 all in!! 205/50/15 at an extra 5 USD per tyre."

Bridgestone Potenza RE-11

+Taxes! My last box - a VERY small one from the US stung me for £65.

was some guy who used to import them but is no longer in u.k anymore

ive been in touch with tire rack in past and wouldnt ship to me back then, maybe its changed, i posted on that itr thread

a set of 15" re11, ad08, rs3, etc from u.s will prob set you back £450-550 delivered after taxes

we need someone in u.s who works at one of these places to hook us up, after staff discount they will be much cheaper and id happily pay them nice sum for their trouble, shipping isnt an issue as could just provide my own acct details and get them either next day or 3-4 days economy :D

Why would any country as populated and developed as the UK have to be deprived of certain tires? Are some sort of tariffs stopping most tire importers?

I have wondered what I'll do with my life, and I think I should start a tire distribution center in the UK.

Just been quoted $669.98 (~£405 GBP) delivered for 4 x RE-11 205/50 R15 from Tire Rack.

So tempted just to go F**K it and buy them :nerv:

Burnie1000 the XS is better and cheaper, why would you want the RE-11?

Just personal preference, would just rather purchase the Bridgestone failing that the AD08.

Still trying to decide if I can justify the price though. Car is handling very well on the newly fitted RG JTC'N1 Coilvovers and current 205/50 R15 T1R's.

going from T1R to ad08 or RE11 is almost like going from stock suspension to correctly setup coilovers, T1R is almost budget run of mill tyre, another tyre i tried when launched, just your average tyre, ran it once and never again

dino, problem with kumho, especially in u.k is that their high end tyres arent well known or have the internet hype, image or brand recognition of better known advan or bstone

if someone sells them in u.k they will catch on, i like grassroots readings, wouldnt take it as gospel but based on review would like to try kumho xs myself now
