I live in Japan and just bought a 97 EK9. She has ~160k kms. I pick it up in 2 weeks and am planning on taking it to a honda dealership to get a once over. Aside from what they tell me, anything I should look at getting updated/replaced when I pick it up? The seller will be replacing all fluids before pickup. She's pretty much bone stock save for coilovers and exhaust. I plan on at least replacing all bushings with hardrace and making sure coilovers are still in good shape.

Take it to Type one?
Tempting....
I'd have to check their prices though. Probably 18,000 yen to get it inspected at a dealership, but I'm suspecting a bit more at type one.

you may find that the honda dealerships don't really have the expertise in older hondas anymore
Honest question; how much expertise do you really need for an old civic? Also, I've heard japanese dealerships are pretty damn honest/reasonable. Possible there's a difference between markets?

Exactly
Since Type one / Spoon specialise in this era of Honda inside out it's a no brainer. They can advise you on improvements far better than any Honda dealership. No doubt they carry OEM stock in house aswell. Yes ek9s are just an old civic and probably easiest cars out there to work on etc Heck If I lived in Japan I would probably go to Spoon just for a oil change just for the experience and jdm points lol. You might actually learn a thing or two speaking to them etc. I'm sure most of us would love to be in your shoes out in Japan. Dont forget you have got plenty more jdm shops to choose from besides dealership such as - Seeker, M and M, Js racing, feels twincam .. depending on which region you live etc
