Hi folks,

Just wondering how far you can take your car with regards to making it a track weapon while still keeping it on the road and putting it through the NCT? (National Car Test is the Irish equivalent of the MOT)

Basically can I rock up to the test centre with a stripped out interior, roll cage, racing seat, harnesses etc or does it need to be in standard trim?

Cheers

Iv Heared of people getting failed for having red recaros in a non type r lately. If that's true there isn't much hope of getting a fixed back and cage to pass

Do you guys not have clauses for road rally cars that need to drive from one stage to another?
We do over here so we can have a cage and single seat/harness setup.

Your MOTs sound abit overkill to me.

Ya all rally cars have to be road legal I think.
Don't get me wrong plenty of people have cages and passed but recently they seem to be getting stricter
Nct is a load of bull ya

That's still nothing compared to some european countries, some places you can't even have different tyre size other than what was fitted by the manufacturer! So no cheap 195/50 for them!

I guess it depends on how strict your garage and tester is. I've had experience of slightly lenient MOT testers (cough) emissions (cough).

Joys of the lenient tester aye! Seems a massive market in Ireland for a "friendly" test station.
They must be really hot on these garages over there for them to be so strict?

i think a lot of members have forgotten what an MOT station looks like.
Illegal fucks the lot of yah!;)

Think Iv only ever had 1 legit MOT in all my 7 years of driving

The interesting thing is, your car with the amount of servicing, maintenance, upgrades etc. that you've carried out is probably safer than most cars with "legit" MOTs.

E.g. Top quality sticky tyres as opposed to shitty ditch-finding budgets with just enough tread to call it a "pass".

But aye, VOSA are probably reading this with the intention of shafting you now :nerv::lol:

Still don't think it's wise to put it on a forum. Should anything happen the police will check the forum, there's a nice thread on PH from a chap who almost killed a guy while driving and some of the stuff he posted on the forum was read in court (and it was the kind of stuff he really could have done without being read in that situation!) Heaven forbid if anything was to happen and someone ended up at the court and the police read this - they'd skin you alive whether you were at fault or not. We are often pushing the law as it is, I don't see a reason to give them more ammo than necessary.

you will fail on :
after market seats
if your indicators are not "orange" enough
their getting stricter on the tire size aswell, 195/50 is still ok at the moment
If you get a prick of a tester they can make you get a modification report. Not sure exactly what way that works but basically you will have no choice but to put the car back to standard. I think if you have your mods declared on insurance you might be ok??? its gone mad altogether

Is this the guy that went to jail after he nearly killed a biker? A DC2 he was in IIRC?

Yep Saqib, I ended up reading the whole thread (which is rather lengthy!) and it is a very sobering read! It did make me think about my driving quite a bit!

You are right. Anything too incriminating isn't a great idea, plenty of things I wouldn't put on here that I've done before, dash board videos are one of them!
I drive for a living so showing you guys a turbocharged ek9 hitting the limiter in 5th wouldn't be wise.

I'll add my MOT is legit, I've not said anything otherwise.....

Sounds like I'll be putting the car back to standard for every test so

Has anyone heavily modified their cars and given their insurance companies a detailed list? And if so what so of increase are you talking on the cost of your policy?

There is a lot of reading in that thread, even if you only read how the accident happened , it certainly makes you think how quickly a fun days drive can change your life forever.....

Surprised you would get moaned at that much, my ej9 passed its not and all it had was 2 recaros in the front and stripped rear.

I gave my insurance company a big list when I insured my ej9 but all depends on the mods as most of it was just like braces, wheels and body panels.
