Hey all, ive come to the decision that I want more power, but love my ek too much haha. Im running an ek4 with a b16b and s4c box. I was looking to turbo that but after some research on this brilliant forum, it seems the b18c4 is a much more practical route, and cheaper as I can flog the b16b for $$

This is also my daily driver so im after reliability>all out power
Need to clear some things up though..

Can I use my s4c box with the b18c4? Its a good box and has the LSD and dual syncromesh gears

Will my Intake manifold fit on the b18? a few people on here have said the standard one isnt very good.

What turbo kits can you recommend?
I'll be fitting this myself. Never done one before but im a mechanic for the raf and have good facilities and a colleague who will help.
I want to run standard internals until I can afford to up the power more. Im after 250+bhp but ideally aiming for 300. plan using a s300 to run the engine and forking out on a damn good tune.

I also have a fujitsubo exhaust with a cat welded in after the header. will I have to replace that? or will a custom downpipe work?

Finally im used to running the B on 99ron fuel. the b18's designed to run on 95 but as its "modded" I wouldnt say heavily but still twice standard power, would you reccomend running it on 99?

Sorry its long, thanks guys!

i have also planned this b18c4 is defo best option as lower compression so less likely to go bang.
you can use you box no probs i shall be using an integra box there all fine to use with the b18 series i believe. any b series intake will fit the b18c4 but not other way round an standard one is not the best :)
load of different turbos to go for depends on your budget really, you can run up to 400bhp on standard internals it seems so your figures should be easy to manage and your fuel is best to be 99ron and i am sure your tuner will advise this to, make sure you use what ever ron fuel they map it to so you get best performance

hope this helps

Thanks for the reply mate, appreciated! Seems like ive found a forged engine for a decent price anyway, so might aswell get that instead of doing it all later! Might be tempted to run 2 maps then at 2 different pressures. mmmmmm

If your planning to use a c4 or c1 the inlet manifolds are different, no other b series manifold will fit. You need an aftermarket one like a victor x or s2.

Ok thats a shame. Have read some more opinions that the s9b box will be more suited to a forced b18 than a s4c, how much difference in driveability will these two have?

Have found the engine :D just need to decide one what turbo I want!

Search for JDP on here, he had a 340bhp EK9 with b18c4 on S4C box, looked like fun... if yours is good, use it, lots of knackered S9B's out there.

Cant really go wrong with a RaceTech turbo kit, but lots of options in the U.S, just remember about the import duty.

Your exaust may be a little restrictive, but you may get away with it upto 300bhp.

Dont forget about all the little extras other than the kit itself...

Fuel Pump
Injectors
Radiator
Clutch
Brakes
Suspension
Engine mounts

Thanks for the reply Ernie. I suppose keeping the s4c is something I can give a go, would probably help the 16b sell though :\ we'll see I wont worry about a s9b for now

Ive heard some good things about the racetech kit, was hoping to buy parts separately to save cost.

Suspension, brakes and fuel pump are uprated but will have to upgrade the others you mentioned!

I've found a nice b18c4 with forged internals, rc injectors and 30k since rebuild for 1100 quid delivered. No flywheel, dizzy or gearbox though. seems like a good price though for what your getting!

just buy a stock b18c4. Unless that forged b18c4 is built by a good builder then go for it..

Yeah im keeping an eye out mate, ill see if he can tell me who built it.

I have JDP's engine, turbo setup etc with a few tweaks. I must say it is so much better and drivability is awesome. Im running standard ek9 gearbox with no issues. Tops out way beyond 145mph!

fuel economy is better than b16b. I get 320miles to a tank.

Nothing much keeps up with my car anymore and have annoyed many a bigger car such RS, M3 etc.

I was going to change my injectors and have it tuned to 400bhp but to be honest that's overkill.

yeah too much power and its overkill for a daily driver! god 320 miles to a tank sounds nice haha! Im probably going to get this forged b18, mainly as it seems well looked after and has lots of receipts etc. Hes offering a turbo kit for 850 with the engine. im a bit sceptical as when I asked what turbo he said it just has jdm on it. think it might be a cheap ebay job ill get a photo up, theyre not too good though

edit: gonna stay away from the turbo kit, i'd rather play it safe. buy cheap buy twice.

Well i use my car as a daily do around 45 - 50 miles a day in it with no problems. Its only as fast as you want it too be lol. Sounds good but I would get a good turbo. Im using a garrett t3/t4 hybrid.

You regiment? Only asking as I noticed your location is honington.

Yeah A tech M at marham on tornado, I have family in thetford and bury so round that way a lot.

wicked, will have to check your motor out after mines done man :)

have also been thinking of building a c4 turbo over time so will be following this thread, hopefully you will put a build thread up? :naughty:

where are some good places to find a good engine thats been tested so you know your not buying sh!t?

cheers

i have a b18c4 turbo in my ek9,its running s4c gearbox with hybrid t3/4 turbo, stock internals with s2 intake, chipped p28 ecu mapped by henry roy and it made 317hp at the wheels:) well worth it,just remember all the little bits and peices. keep us posted on the build mate,300 hp is more than enough;)
