VTEC at 6100-6200rpm, why?

rvm: what does the chipped ecu do? remove rev limiter and lower vtec stage?

I ordered a ecu with a better base map for my B16B, vtec kicking in at 5800 rpm, rev limit to 9000 RPM, speed limit removed, and I use the check engine light as a shiftlight lol :wow:

What brand is the ECU? Do you still have the engine light somewhere or not? :nerv: Make sure you have it. Within two years I have the car, it warned me twice for minor problems :nice:

ManosEK9: I've mentioned before somewhere of my experience with Vtec cross over points. For the B16B, dropping it lower than 5000rpm will loose power opposed to the 1st cam. There isn't much air velocity that amount of revs until about 6000rpm. Thats where the 2nd cam works best. Its like having a lumpy 1st cam which will totally destroy the low and mid range power... remember vtec killer cams?

I've used J's Racing and Spoon chips and J's Racing is set at 5500rpm, redline 9000-9200rpm. I can't remember because I don't take it further than 9k. And SPOON's chip kicks in at 5000rpm, redline 9k.

Once on 5000rpm with SPOON's chip, it feels like the power hike has stalled up until 5800rpm which before that the velocity starts to build and then erupts from 6000rpm. J's however kicks in at 5500rpm which deletes that dead spot where the 1st cam starts to loose out(i'm sure all b16B owners feel that) but then creates a more gradual build in power instead of it's standard sudden power hike.

I know for sure that the J's racing is faster, the feeling between both isn't minimal, it's feels like a different engine.

Also don't forget that exhaust and header size pipes also have an effect of it's delivery. 2.25inch is the reccomended size for 1.6L to maintain the velocity to balance in power all rpm ranges. I have a 2.25 inch system, so this is the result on mine. If you have a 2.5inch then more power will be lost when kicking vtec earlier. It's all about the combination. A word used so much and repeated 3 times all over the place in HONDA builders book.

Is a chipped JDM PR3 ecu, yes the the check engine light do the job! :nerv:
