Hi guys.

I am starting to compete in hill climbs and sprints this year and I know one thing I deffo need to do is change my exhaust. Personally I love it but It has been measured at 107db which is way too much. I have a buddyclub spec 2 with a decat and stock 96spec dc2 manifold. Im looking for some advise on what exhausts people use for motorsport and that also have a good flow. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks

do they actually check the db level at the events your wanting to compete at ? i would suggest maybe even just having a silencer put in somewhere to kill off a few db

Thanks for the reply. Yes they check it in the scrutineering. But if they didnt, they would know its over anyway. Ye I could put a silencer in but people that compete in events like the vtec challenge must use a cirtain exhaust to keep to requirements?

Loads of places can make a good competition system. I'm getting a 3" system fitted by TDi North shortly that will allow me to compete at virtually all tracks. Solid Fabs will also do a good race exhaust if your darn sarf:))

Ok mate thanks, so is there no branded off the shelf systems that might offer the same? Is that why you are going for a custom system?

I'm in slightly different situation, as I'm kswapped, and also unusual in the design I want at the rear. There are good systems available off the shelf, but you'll find that most of them will be touch and go at best for meeting noise regs. Certainly if you're competing and want to get the most out of it that you can

I've just re-read your OP, and the OEM manifold will certainly help to bringing you within regs. I must be honest im more au fair about k20's where the manifold makes a massive difference on noise. Maybe someone can shed light on whether his is the same for you?

What engine? Custom would be more suited as the fabricator can tailor the exhaust to your needs.
What hills and sprints are you looking at doing?
I have been competing in them for the last 3 years up north of the border.

Hi, I have a b18c in my ek with a 96spec manifold, decat and buddyclub catback im looking at doing most of the hillclimbs/sprints in the aswmc. What exhaust are you useing then?

Ah you are way down south.
I was using a custom 3" Meercat exhaust on my b16 turbo. With the turbo it easily passed the noise tests. The car is now parted out around the country.:(

Ahh I see, ye when they carry out the test turbo cars are normally abit quieter arnt they. I could get a bung but I thought I read in the blue book that a device to reduce exhaust noise is not permitted

Ok guys qell thanks for your help, I think I will be looking into a custom system and get some prices

If you can get there solid fabrications seem to be very well thought of. I've actually got a full system of his on the ek at the moment. Good power and very track friendly (only 93db static).

I suppose the next question is then, what size bore should I go for to get the most gains? I know it will vary depending on other mods but any ideas?

Yeah turbo cars have a great silencer in the turbo haha! I was only ever 95db max at 2/3rds revs.
I would have to read the blue book to help you with that, il look at it later on.
For a b18 I would go for a nice 2.5" system.

Ok thank, where are solid fabrications too? Im guessing they have a website? Mine was 107db when I had it measured and that was just stationary haha

107db just sitting ticking over?? I think your meter is off.

Yep you were right, new exhaust time.
