Hi guys, just want to know what super unleaded people use in their vtec car? i found texaco and shells v power the best for my 9, but they have lately all changed to bp or maxol etc? so what do you find best and what's the ron rating? thanks in advance :)

Tbh i didnt really notice a difference from bp super to normal unleaded, my car seemed to run better on texaco super, but it seems i wont be gettin that anymore...

Shell V Power is the best you can get, running at 99 octane. It does improve performance on engines that are 'performance' biased, and it also has very good cleaning properties. I think its definitely worth the extra 7p per litre. Ive seen tests and it improved horse power on a turbo car by up to 15hp in tests.

Well worth it, its all I use in the Jordan and in my '07 Ninja.

Ben

our shells changed to bp over here last year, or that's what i'd be putting into her.....

I think BP ultimate is 98 octane. It wasnt as good as V Power in tests, but did create an improvement in the same ways that V Power does.

Southern Ireland has garbage fuel,Topaz took over all the Shell stations,we dont have BP,so its fairly poor,Maxol E5 seems to be the best we have

has anybody tried tesco's super unleaded? almost sure it's suppose to be 99ron, think it's made by biofuels...

I wouldnt bother with the supermarket fuels to be honest, and around here the shell unleaded is usually the same price as asda and at worst only 1p more a litre. As I said above V Power is 7p a litre more, but in my eyes worth it. If you all want to see the tests, search for it on you tube. Try something like 'fifth gear fuel tests'. Should be able to find it.

i have a yamaha tzr125r jap import, and it definately ran smoother on v-power(99ron), i guess i'm going to have to put octane booster in from now on. i think sainsbury's gets its petrol from bp so it's 97ron, i'm going to try tescos to see how it runs on it, as it is 99ron also....

What you got to remember with the V Power its not just down the octane rating, its the cleaning properties that they put in it. It also lubricates internals and helps protect. I also saw a video where they had normal fuel in a jar with a used engine valve placed in it and the same again with V Power fuel. You couldnt see the valve in the v power jar because it had cleaned all the coke/carbon off the valve. The normal fuel was clean and you could see the dirty valve perfectly in the jar. So you are paying for the extra things they put in it other than just the octane rating, and to be honest with spending money on the booster, you might aswell just buy the v power and save the hassle of mixing it with the fuel and knowing that it is actually doing something, there wont be much difference in cost. As each bottle will only treat a certain amount of litres of fuel, so maybe you could work it out.

the problem is all the shells have changed in northern ireland, so i can't get it anymore, that's why i posting to see who uses what, and what they find best. :) when the shells changed to bp, i started using texacos super with i found just as good as v-power, but they have also closed up shop
so i'm left with the supermarkets and bp, or octane booster....

Thats the one mate, well done on finding it, knew Id seen it somewhere. The comment is also right about the fuel economy, the company I used to work for switched to Shell fuel for its fleet vehicles and after extensive research they found that there was at least a 3% increase in fuel economy, and that wasnt even with the V Power, which is meant to be better again. Im sure it lowers running temps also, not sure if the video showed that, as I didnt have any speakers when I just watched it again, so cant tell if they mentioned that.

PS I dont work for Shell before people thing Im blowing their trumpet, just always been interested on reading about things like fuels and oil, and like seeing if there are differences.

Is there a camparason vrs Tesco 99ron fuel? I gather that test was just used against normal unleaded rather than higher ron fuels from other companys.

It's amazing to see and it's put it into perspective how it can effect your car.

You must also consider though, because your cars performance is improving. I tend to drive mine more so therefor the fuel consumption is infact going down! Not up as they claim. I may write to them see what they think :p
