What tyre sizes are you running on 15 inch wheels?

How come everyone is running a 50 or 55 profile? I have 195/45 on 15's and it looks nice tyre sidewall to wheel ratio haha, I got a set of 16's and am thinking 195/45 giving me a sidewall of 195x0.45 = 87.75mm.. I was always led to believe a higher sidewall incures less response due to tyre movment 195x55 = 107.75mm so 20mm extra wall height would seem to me making the tyre sidewall/wheel size look funny?

Is there more benefit using 50 or 55's?
