EM1 Long term build (sideline EG track build)

Huge amount of work here! Great read on my lunch! Wish I had a unit your size with a ramp!

Pleased you enjoyed the read :) I wouldn't be doing this amount work without the ramp, I was just very lucky that I was able to pick the ramp up and pay it off in installments.. Plan was to make it pay for itself by doing the odd jobs for mates but that didn't last long before the strip down began. The man hours is ridiculous and don't think anyone would do this if it wasn't a labour of love - owned the car 13 years and don't ever plan on parting with it

Wow, alot of time gone into this. Loving the build and will keep following this. Keep up the great work!

What a great read! the car has come along way and is in very good hands! great looking EM1!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the positive comments! I'm travelling with work, so might be a little while before I can update with anything

Just read through the whole thing. So much goodness.

Amazing choice on colour, would never have thought it.

Amount of time gone into this build so far is unreal. Loving the attention to detail

Your idea of a "budget build" is very different to my idea of budget build though haha. Looking forward to more updates.

My car is odd! it would seem as if someone has driven it backwards into the sea at some point but only dipping the back end in - every bolt on the rear is rusty as f*ck! whilst the front seems good - always said Im sooo happy my car was built in the US purely for the better quality steel - but I reckon Honda must have sent a boat load of shitty bolt over for the original build.... lots of this was needed to release all the bolts that had cold welded to the inside of the bush!

You know I was thinking the same ! No rust what so ever on my ej8 ,
Been that it's good old USA steel lol .

thanks man.. I totally agree on the 'budget' in the title.. Although it was very much on a tight budget when I started the thread >3 years ago. I do so still refurb rather than replace whenever I can, only buy things when the oppurtunities right, and the delays in the build are often due to waiting until I can afford parts. There is a budget, I've just realised things need to be done properly to meet my end vision

Your work has paid off big time ! The second painter hit it out of the park !
Front end looks so much cleaner,
Fair play.

The second painter saved the car in all honesty, no one I spoke too wanted to correct another painters mistakes. As soon as this guy came to see the car his first response was "we need to get this on the road". He loves it and is often checking up to make sure I'm looking after the bodywork whilst doing all these chassis jobs..

Yeah timing is everything mate. Seems things have happened for you at the right times. Your unit looks amazing to.

That's a man that takes pride in his work ,
And unfortunately ther all not the same.
But it's done now and that's all that matters.

Think it's really hard to find a good bodyshop these days. But the car looks super clean so seems you have found the guy haha.

The stripping down is the easy part... Still got to put it all back together! Although I'm looking forward to putting everything back together fresh

Yeah I learnt that the hard way, the first painter had the ability to do good work but he was expanding when he took mine on, and I think the apprentice did a lot more work than maybe he should have done. It was the guys attitude which was the biggest issue though... Painful but lessons learnt.

The new painter is very much of the old school, started with air brushing on custom bikes and he really is an artist not just a painter... Doesn't charge enough, works too many hours and is constantly booked up for more than 10 months, but he loves what he does and that makes all the difference!

Managed to get a couple of evenings down the unit this week, first night I got the bay painted in the Jotamastic

Don't mind the imperfections in the paint, next step is high build primer and then prep ahead of the 2K blue

Next night I finished up stripping back the last of the arches and deoxing any rusty areas to be left overnight

Need to fix these areas on the front member on both sides - typical spot for these civics - I was contemplating getting new items from Honda, but its money I don't really need to spend as long as the fix is good
