Upgrading to 4 pots - dust seals?

After a really good day at Croft yesterday with the car, i'm desperately in need of some better brakes. I thought I'd see how they fared before looking into it, but they were alot worse than I expected!

I looked at the Midilites as I've heard they fit okay with standard ek9 wheels, but remember when the bf put them on his saxo and was really disappointed with them and preferred the large GTI180 upgrade to them and its put me off as I'm not really upgrading disc size at all.

Now I'm looking at the Superlite kit, but changing the pads

this increases my disc size, and should lighten up the front slightly..
does anyone know if I'd struggle to fit these behind ek9 wheels/TE37s?

Also in regards to no dust seals - is there anyway I can fit some to these? do they cause any issues not having any?
I dont want to be stripping my brakes down constantly to clean and rebuild or whatever..

anyone got any other suggestions for what will fit under standard wheels and te37s that do a good job and not just look pretty? :D

Your going to want a larger disc size of you plan on using all the cars power on track IMO

As mentioned upgrading to a 300mm+ front disc will help to get the car stopped and ideally a disc with alloy bells to keep the weight down when moving to a larger diameter.... paired with a good caliper setup

Your brakes are also limited to how much grip your tyres have so a wider better compound tyre will allow you to brake harder and decrease stopping distances

so the superlites would be a good choice then? I'm still concerned about dust seals?
Just need to check how they fit under the wheels. seems theres an option for 298/309mm discs, and they're thicker too...
Would've thought superlites with something RC5+ pads should be a lot better than what I've got now?

I'm on 195/50 r888s and couldnt have been happier with them

First up I think ek9 brakes are fine for your power. What pads etc have you used?

If you arent on race fluid and race pads that would be a much more efficient route yo go down. Four pots dont improve braking or reduce fade notably.

I also thought it would be fine, hence not upgrading, but turns out they're hopeless.

I'm on ds2500s with ATE super blue, was absolutely perfect last year, but stopping from 115mph on track I had a few hairy moments where it just kept going lol :( it wasn't fade, was my first session out that I noticed they were no good straight away.

Meant to be a good pad aswell.
I'm on rc6 on the front of mine, although I've not got full power on track I'm still braking from 120+mph lap after lap.
No fade and they ALWAYS stop the car bang on.
I used to be really uncomfortable on the brake pedal until I deleted ABS and run those rc6 pads.

If your saying that the car just wouldn't stop(not fade) I'd be looking into the efficiency of the braking system and trying to find a possible issue.
You should be able to stop decent atleast afew times from cold with those pads....

Try something like Carbotech or Carbon Lorraine pads, I ran the Carbotech XP8s on my DC2 with 282mm discs and stopping was never a problem from speed, I never hammered them that relentlessly on track but others have had good results.

You ran a brake line tuck didn't you?
Got the correct prop valve?
Not air in the system?
Lines the correct size?

My issue with just changing pads is the DS2500s aren't a bad pad and its a huge waste of money buying more pads to find next to no improvement. Its high speed down the long straights trying to slow down where I'm used to stamping on them and getting a really good response that was the issue, was not too bad for slightly lighter braking.

Not really sure what I can look at as to what can be an issue, they're properly bled and theres no kinks or leaks, got the non abs 40/40 prop valve and lines are correct sizes so I dunno?

So you get half decent braking on say half pedal pressure, but not as good(proportionally) full pedal pressure?
How odd.
Must be a fault with something because they used to stop you fine at similar speeds but won't now?
From the tracktime I've had in mine I Defo wouldn't call the oem brakes shocking, I mean they do get hot but never fail to stop me.

Dont think I ever saw over 100 on any track tbh, it gets there a lot quicker now so I'm getting into 5th by the end of straights now.

what could it be a fault with though?

Check your seals and pistons for corrosion. Ds2500 will likely not be good enough. I justtt cope with them on 180bhp. Mind i have lighter ek4 brakes and do 40min endurance races on em!

After that its disks not calipers that you would uprate. Calipers are for weight, or for bling or for pad control but its the disks that sink most of the heat. You want big old vents and usually that comes with ali bells.

(It sounds like sticking issues to me - pads in guide or pistons due to rust)

I had DS2500 on my turbo crx and could brake from 120mph lap after lap.
And one of the braking zones is on downhill.
Make sure the pads move freely in the carriers. File off the paint on the mating surfaces.

Will have a look at my brakes when I get a chance then. Car has been stood a while I guess.
Calipers have always looked in good condition and shes been dry stored but Ill see if theres anything amiss.
Annoyingly I cant really tell how bad they are unless I'm on track, dont notice it at all on the road so be hard anything helps!

By all means upgrade to four pots if you want too.
Could possibly fix the problem if you've got anything up with the calipers etc.
Just from my experience the standard calipers are pretty good considering...

Yeh I agree, I thought they'd be plenty good enough with decent pads too which is why I never changed them
The amount of comments I've had during my build and at track time Saturday with people commenting on me using standard brakes is unreal, they all thought I'd been stupid and forgotten them, but I genuinely felt like they'd be fine after the abuse they got last year!

will price up 4 pots, cant hurt to have bigger brakes - but check over my brakes first sometime this week too :)

I mean it's still an upgrade after all but I'd be in full "I told you so mode" for all the stock caliper haters telling me I'm stupid lol

Agree with this! I thought that DS2500 would be a good pad but after a few spirited drives/trackdays they soon went.

I have gone for some Hawk HP Pads and EBC Ultimax discs. Will be getting my 282 calipers refurbished so I don't have any issues with sticky sliders.

Nicole as said on IG I don't trust the wildwood setup as the pad size is smaller than oem
