Upgrading to 4 pots - dust seals?

I didn't realise that it wasn't much over 100mph that you were braking from... In that case a good OEM caliper setup with the right discs and pads should be plenty

I'm braking from close to 130mph on 2 straights each lap down to about 50 and have no problems with OEM DC2 calipers, Brembo plain discs and ferodo Ds2500 pads

I have the ABS removed which does allow you to push the brakes a bit more but you also need plenty of grip at the front to avoid locking up so I also run 225/45/16 Dunlop semi slick tyres

Not even the superlite setup? lol :)

not even the superlites? :blinx:

Not even the superlites. I think a overhaul of the calipers make sure you don't have any sticky sliders, some Carbon Lorraine pads with decent discs will help more than some bling 4pots

Carbon lorraine pads are good but I found them very hard on the discs

Nicole won't like carbon Lorraine pads, the dust is pretty hardcore! It also sends sintered metal down the sides of the car and on the wheels
Perfect for someone who wants to stop fast, not so perfect if you like your paintwork and wheels....

That's because your running rc6. Rc5+ is better suited and not as bad on paintwork

My brothers got rc5+, still pretty dusty.
Not sure about how harsh they are on the paintwork etc, only have experience of rc6.

Have used 5+
No issues there with hurt paint.
My wheels on that car were already embedded with rusting steel particles though!

They would eat disks as they work by abrasion rather than continued transferance. Cannot be overheated though.

Best to keep your wheels and body waxed and sealed you will be fine. Dirt will fall off without much agitation. Use the right products and you'll be ok.

You thought about using ATR twinpots and 300mm x 28mm disc setup Nicole? Modulates like oem and feel and perform well. Only downside is bit of extra weight.

Thats interesting that the pad size for the Wilwood's is smaller than the OEM EK9 pad size..

I bought some Midilites for the EK as I found them fantastic on my old 106 GTi. Also a nice way to reduce unsprung weight. When I eventually fit them I will have to compare...

Would love to know how you find them rushy as you've had them on both. What pads did you use on the gti with the midilites?

I wasnt sure how much difference the twinpots would actually make @irf but I have seen them a few times..

I'm running them on my turbo teg with CL Rc5+ all round and ATE super blue. Really impressed with them for the money. Planning to get some track time this year so can test them properly.
Ideally you want a bigger and thicker discs for the brakes to work effectively as it's dissapates heats faster plus you got larger braking surface.

You can fit EP3 300mm brakes under OEM wheels with some fettling, might be a shout? From the pic you put on FB it looked like your brakes had overheated so going with the bigger 300mm disks would be a good way to go!

aye automek in glasgow managed to get a ep3 300mm setup under oem ek9 wheels i'm sure, so it is possible.

A mate of mine uses they accord type r brakes on his mad turbo civic so must be good!

This is a shout as it goes! Pretty sure the pad surface is larger too? Not sure about piston size and what that will do to the pedal feel mind....

Yup, Martin has them on his EK9 and still runs OEM wheels!

Yeah man, pad surface is larger and piston size is almost the same IIRC, so the feel doesn't change at all.

Only problem is bleed nipples at the bottom because they sit the opposite side on an ep3.

Ep3 calipers are on the opposite side to our calipers. Hence why you swap them round when fitting, As jesse said
Tbh I wouldn't bother with them. Full atr setup is superior as its double piston also the discs are thicker at 28mm.
Ek9 disks are 282 x 23mm / bore size - 70.0mm
Ep3 - 300 x 25mm / bore size - 64mm same as 96 spec dc2
ATR - 300 x 28mm / bore size - 70.0mm same bore as 98 spec dc2 and ek9. So the atr setup is simple bolt on to the ek9 and 98 specs.

On a 96 spec teg it's a little different like mine for example I got my atr mtec discs redrilled to 4x114 and had to run a spigot spacer to increase my bore size from 64-70mm and use a couple of washers on my carriers to centralise the carrier with discs. I could of used ep3 setup as the discs would of slotted on but I wanted thicker discs. Whatever you do don't run atr calipers with ep3 discs as it effects the longevity of the caliper as the piston will get pushed out past the rubber seals as the ep3 discs are thinner! Not sure most of this is relevant to this thread so I'll stop now lol
