i know it has been spoken about many times befor but i am just needing some clarification, :blinx:

does the oil needs differ from b16b and the b18c6

i need oil ad not sure what to go for,

tell me people and i will do it,

cheers

adam :thanks:

it depends on your country's climate mate. i'm in cyprus so i use a 10w40 in the uk you should be better off using a 5w40. go for the likes of motul, castrol, pj1 etc :drive:

i use a 10w40 semi synthetic oil and will be replacing it evry 6 months along with the filter!

vtec engines don't need expensive thin oils as they will just burn them up under heavy vtec driving!

10 40w castrol magnetic....

most people dont know this but ek9's and dc2 type r's need and oil change every

3000 miles...... its very short change. keep this up and engine will run forever!!!

Ok, the ek9 honda civic type r manual will give you the answer:

Depending on your climate you can use any of these oil class.

If you have the budget go full synthetic or semi synthetic is ok also.

In my case I prefer Motul 10W 40 semi synthetic, remember like the spoon owner said, OIL it's not whisky, hehehe use the one honda recommends, choose one that "fits" your climate.

Remember is not how expensive the oil is, is how often you change it. In my case, I change it every 2500 - 3500 KM.

:)

I do not recommend mobil 1 10W 30 fully synthetic (depending of your climate), my ek9 consumed 1.5 liters of this oil running 1000 km, so this means, this oil is not made for the B16B, since my car only had 60,000 km, and the motor had 225 PSI per cylinder. :blinx:

Also I ran at the track with 35C + temperature, the track is near the sea, so it was very hot, and as the honda ek9 manual said 10W 30 is good for temperatures between -20 C to 35 C.

hmmm, RVM is 5W-30 correct on the manual? Thats strange don't you think?

You can't go wrong with 5W-40

Yes it is, I think some countries have that kind of climate! :nerv:

Do you track your car ?

In my dc2 I put a little more oil when I go to the track, they type r engines tend to consume some oil in hard driving conditions :secret:

5 40 silkolene pro s for me, provides excellent cold starting protection being 5 - 40 as oppose to 10 - 40

I wanted to buy 5w40 but halfords only had 0w40 at the time. So i got that instead....
0w40 and 5w40 is stated in the oil guide of halfords.

0-40 is fine to use, it is better over an even wider temp range i think,, i`m sure oilman will be here soon to explain,

Yeah I think Oilman said somewhere it is fine. But I deffo wanna get 5w40 next time. Im glad I changed the oil. As it was pure BLACK lol

prob black as these ek9`s run quite rich from the factory it seems,,

infact i am running mobil 1 0 40 at the mo until i change to silkolene,

Yeah, I same, Mobil1 0w40 sysnthetic. £37 from halfords with trade card.
