VSM EK9 K20 Turbo Project

Not half decent with a welder are you!

Cheers fellas. T'is what I do for a living though!
Going to get it up to RDT next week and see if it'll tip 200whp with the new exhaust. Will leave it at that for the time being then. On track with it on the 5th, then we'll get it back in the workshop for a load more jobs. Turbo manifold being the first on the list!

Proper work of art, the tig welds nearly look like there done by a robot!!!

Thanks guys. Though I still think my stainless welding has room for improvement - I just don't get to do enough of it! My aluminium is a lot more polished on the other hand:

Great work, it must be very handy to have the skill and resource for that kind of fab/welding work when building a track car

I got a guy in work to stainless tig weld my b-pipe to modify it for the kswap and it is certainly one of those things that needs a lot of practice and patience to get good at, the guy who helped me install the cage also prefers to use a tig instead of a mig for better penetration

The system should certainly free up a few hp :)

I also prefer using tig when we do cages, though 99% of the time it'll be mig at the customer's request due to the extra cost/time involved.

I've actually done very little by way of fab work on this car, since most of it has been bolt ons until now (bar the usual header/exhaust and intake that I've made). My Fiesta on the other hand, has been much more involved, with nearly every part having to be made by myself!

EVO power Fiesta....very impressive and I'm sure there is a load of work getting that to work in such a small space, is the car going to be 4x4?

Yeah all four wheels driven! I built it around evo RS running gear. It just stands as a rolling shell at the minute though, until I find the time to get the engine built up and then reassemble it all. There's an awful lot of work left to do with it though - can't see it being completed any time soon

Spec is roughly as follows:
Engine:
2.2 billet stroker crank
R&R long rods
CP Pistons
Mivec head - Cams TBC
GTX3582r turbo, TiAL bov and wastegate (was going to be a GTX3076r, but I've pinched that for the ek9 now!)
PWR chargecooler
Gems X25 ecu

Running gear:
5 speed box
RS 456 transfer and rear diff
Cusco twin plate clutch
RS shafts

Chassis:
Custom LEDA struts
T45 front and rear subframe and control arms
Custom made Team Dynamics wheels and BTCC slicks
Semi-spaceframe and carbon wide arch jwrc body panels

Just realised I've owned this a year now - it's flown by and been an awful lot of fun!

It's come a long way in that time - while it's pretty much identical on the surface to how it was the day I bought it, just about everything beyond that is different/new/upgraded etc. plus a hell of a lot of repair work behind the scenes due to the negligence of the previous owner!

I'm now at a point where I'm not sure on the direction to take with it - I'd like to strip it, cage it and set it up properly for track duties, but on the other hand it seems a shame to use such a clean shell! Either way, there's a lot of upgrades to come in the near future..

Really nice bro! Was really new to this forum and saw your thread. I habe also a VSM EK hatch but it is very far from what is yours. :'( Only sohc turbo. So mt respect goes to you bro. :)

Aye yours looked well! I had a few little issues on the day that I'm hoping to get sorted before the next one. Back there on the 23rd August!

A mate dropped some tyres off for me last night.. Should make things interesting, should I get chance to use them!
