halfords do good professional range that has lifetime gurantee (or long 1 at least) so use and abuse it and then take it back if breaks

as above, even in the motor trade people use Halford tools.

can't go wrong with lifttime gurantee either.

yea treat them like shite

i use teng tools though which also have a lifetime garauntee

Like your thinkin there Dan, pretty much my sentiments exactly! Always done little bits on my cars but with the '9 decided I was gonna do it all myself, always been handy with a spanner, so just some learnin to do.. Plus the fact that I know I'll take more care over her than any garage will, even if it does take me 3 times as long!!!

Anyways, back to your question, I've always liked SEALEY tools as a cheaper altrenative to snap on etc, although when funds permit I'll be getting myself a nice snap on setup, nothin like good quality tools if you ask me!!

Make sure you get a set with 6 sided sockets, also some deep sockets and a nice fine ratchet.
Good luck Dunx

thanks guys ill look in to buying something like that! im bit scared doing owrk on the 9 tbh lol I wont be doing big things! not at 1st anyway!

a good set of sockets spanners an screwdrivers is all u really need they do any lite work u are capable of doin as u progress in wat ur workin on then its time to buy the speciality tools

Thats a real good point to watch for there. I usually use a 1/4" set for smaller jobs & 1/2" for everything else. Coupled with a 1/2" torque wrench and your all good...

1/2" drive is for large things like a lugnuts. 1/4" drive is for very small things where space permits a small ratchet. 3/8" drive is what people use on 90% of the car.
1/2" drive torque wrenches are only good for high torque applications, you need a 3/8 drive wrench to be accurate for the lower torque bolts on the car.

I'd like to add, any quality tool company will have a lifetime return guarantee. The tools that don't are the cheap ones you get in the $5 bin.
Dan, you could pick a company you like that has stores in your area (easy exchanges) and buy a bare bones mechanics tool set. This will save you money and you can buy sp
ecialty tools as you need them. Some people buy expensive tools they think they need and never use them.

Off the top of my head, you will also find useful-
Vice grip pliers
Small and large screwdrivers
Large slip lock pliers
Needle nose with cutters
Oil filter wrench
2 jack stands, 1 or 2 jacks
Small and large torque wrench
Open + Box end wrench set
1/2" breaker bar with a few larger sockets
Pieces of metal pipe to slip over you current ratchets for more leverage (save s money on smaller breaker bars)

As for 12 point Vs. 6 point sockets and wrenches, 12 points have more range but can slip on small bolts, so for 12mm and under it would be ideal to have 12 pt. and 6 pt. wrenches and sockets.

Edit- Didn't know this was in the WTB section but I'm keeping the post here.

Go for a teng socket set they are awesome,

not to expensive and really good quality, go to toolshack.com
