lol... man i've got a bent left knuckle waiting to be fixed as well as some clonking noise coming from somewhere which I suspect the driveshafts, just replaced worned out clutch plate that wasn't clamping properly and making noise everytime, fast idle on start up is still stuffed, 5% leakage in compression, etc etc etc I want to show it off as much as I can... LOL

Alright!!! Getting car back on Wednesday. I hope the $$ was worth it... :nerv:

Ok, I've gotten the car back but only got the chance to drive it below Vtec...
First impressions weren't as big as expected, it didn't feel much difference until I drove it longer. After 5-10 mins, you start to notice how easy it is to take off at low revs and driving under 4000rpm has become less hesitating with the 1.6. Theres less hesitation and more pick up in every gear but I'm not used to changing gears so quickly after each change.

So far, I think it's a good mod for driving around town, it feels like it's gained more torque and due to the lack it, does help the 1.6 to accelerate noticably quicker in every gear in every rpm. And one thing for sure is that, I think I would not be able to compromise with a 4.9FD driving around town.

The fun part hasn't begun yet, so I'll be continuing my comments tomorrow. :D

I'll check it tomorow, I know previously it was at 3400rpm @ 100kmph

No Probs RVM :nice:

Ok, I've managed to check out what it reads at 100kmph. And to my surprise, it was 3700rpm, which is only 300rpm higher than stock. :D

I did tend to underspeed when traveling around 100kmph because I'm so used to the sound at 3400rpm. Anyway, it's something you can live with, so all in all it's good. However...

For the money you pay for the kit and installation, I would think twice... why?...........last night on my first hard run, I hit just over 100kmph in 2nd gear @ 9000rpm :( the power band is shorter... I normally like longer power bands in lower gears and lower speeds(personal opinion), Normally I'd nearly hit 110kmph with the stock FD in 2nd. But onto 3rd gear is where it shines more on the 1.6L

I think this kind of mod is more for the track, however it does give you more drivability in terms of driving around in the city, and you can pull away in any gear. I drive 30kmph in 4th and 5th no probs. But other than that, thats all the positive stuff to be said.:blabla:

For my personal and recommended opinion, I'd change the 1st and 2nd gears to make them a bit longer for more power band but keep 4.785 FD so the 3rd, 4th, and 5th will do better at higher speeds. I was racing a modded 400hp+ Holden UTE(Maloo) (I had the 4.4 FD then) and we both were side by side at 40kmph in 2nd gear, we both hit the throttle at the same time and to my Suprised:shocked: I stayed with him dead until the 3rd gear change which he leaped and I mean LEAPED forwards. I think he hit around 115kmph+ in 2nd gear.:nerv:

Anyway, these are just my personal opinions and I'll have to do more hard driving tests when I can, as too many cops over here and don't want to get busted bad.:nice:

For this reason I decided not to install a 4.78 FD but to change the ratios of 3rd and 4th gear only :nice:
But I think that 4.78 isn't too bad for daily drive and street racing for the EK9 cuz it doesn't sacrifice a lot of powerband.....

Good choice! :angry2: That way you'll maintain stock rpm @ 100kmph :nice:

Have you installed it already?

I might get a quotation and see if I can get some longer 1st and 2nd gears. i know SPOON makes them. They also Modify the 1st and 2nd gears and put a 4.6 Final Drive I think...:nice:

Nice review jugbugz, this is on the list for next year, although I think I will try and find somebody in UK who has the 4.78 so I can experience it first, that and a longer chat with TGM..

you really can't feel the difference in acceleration, but pick up in low revs are better :nice:
