5th gear acts like it's in neutral help

I have a weird problem with my transmission. The car has been running fine. No noises coming from the drive-train. One day earlier this week, without any noise at all, I found that I have no 5th gear. No grinding or clunking, it just acts like it's in neutral when I put it up there. No resistance on the stick either, it's just dead.

Any clue on this?

Car: EG6
Engine: B16A2
Gearbox: Y21

either the the dog teeth are rung off(unlikely) or else the selector fork in the box is gone or dislodged.
 
Hummm

I don't bealeve because if it was the tooth i would hear something on my gear box and if it was the fork the reverse would not enter either.

I think i maybe have something with the last nut.....

ive seen it happen with a vw polo before 4th gear just disappeared and there wasnt really any noise from the box either.
 
I would say its a problem with the shift fork assemble, gearbox would need to be removed and opened to see.
 
Shift fork works with 5th gear and reverse. My reverse is perfect.
Never happend this issue with somebody here?
 
maybe your exhaust has moved meaning the lever cannot go all the way and engage as its banging off the bottom of the shifter?

you could be on the money there possibly this happened a friend when he changed exhaust on an eg6..i had to bend the bar on the bottom of shifter for him.
 
I can put the shifter in the normal 5th gear position. Saturday i will see what´s wrong, is a strange thing.

The gearbox doesn't make any strange noise is like normal with two neutral's positions :nono:

I put this post just to see if somebody had this same issue.

I don't feel that normal ''click'' like it should, when idle and i try to put fifth gear i can listen (chik cjik chik) like when a gear is not 100% at the position like sometimes happen with reverse you know what i'm trying to say?
 
hmmm very weird . once u find the problem please post up and let us know for any future problems folk might have
