A Question For The EK9 Insurance Companies

I was just wondering how insurance companies deal with modifications made after the original policy has begun. Is there a seperate tariff for modifications done to the car whilst the policy is running or would the cost be the same as if I had stated before the quote was accepted? How would this then be paid for?

And lastly, is there a requirement to let the insurance company know if you change from, for example, a Spoon N1 exhaust to a Mugen Twinloop or would this just be classed as after-market exhaust system and so, in the event of a crash, it wouldn't matter what brand of exhaust was on the car, just that it was aftermarket?

Different insurers will have different ratings guides for modifications. You can include the future mods at the quote stage with some insurers and these can be looked at more favourably than they would be added midpolicy.
With regards to the last question, my company cover like for like so it would be to your advantage to keep us informed as to what is on the car.

Thanks for the reply, but if the unthinkable happened and, hypathetically, I was involved in a multi-car pile-up that was my fault; would an insurance company have the right to refuse payment if my policy said I had a Mugen exhaust instead of the Spoon one which was found on my car?

Sorry for all these long-winded questions, my policy is coming up for renewal in the next 3 months and I just want to know where I stand when I start to modify my EK9.

I can only answer on behalf of my company.. if you told us you had an aftermarket exhaust you would be fine but we would ask you to let us know makes and models when things are swapped over.

yeeep, on an EK9 anyway

Well thats what they told me when i phoned :)

Im 99.9999% sure Sky told me they couldnt insure me on my EK9 until i was 25, i have never tried Chris Knott and all the other places i did try could insure me for good prices, so i just bumped sky.

Nothing against them at all, im sure they provide a good service, but im pretty sure you have to be over a certain age

Im just going by what i was told when i phoned for an estimate a while back, i was 21 at the time.

No problem, it may be worth you reminding me of this conversation by PM when you are up for your next insurance renewal.

Thanks
