The VTEC Challenge is a new and exciting All Honda race series that will be running in conjunction with BARC - the British Automobile Racing Club and with support from Yokohama Tyres. The series aims to provide an ideal setting for the newcomer to racing to feel welcome, safe and to quickly learn the ropes and come up to speed alongside a mixture of novices and more experienced drivers. With full tyre sponsorship and on-site spares and service support, the series aims to be a very financially viable series that caters for all Honda enthusiasts. The new season will start in April 2011 so plenty of time to get those cars ready. Provisional circuit calendar includes Silverstone, Donnington, Mallory Park, Croft, Anglesea and Snetterton.

We are also proud to be supported by those from the EK9.org forum and the ever growing Honda community

To find out more, please check out the website and the forum which can be found at Honda VTEC Challenge Race Series

Thanks for your time

Mike and Kris.

Are you organizing all of this Mike? If so, good on you, it looks to be a brilliant recipe for an affordable way into racing for anyone into their trackdays and sprints who want to move it to the next level.

I wish I had the necessary skills and experience to have a crack, maybe someday....

Look forward to more details Mike. I need some work!

Yeh me and Kris had the idea and put it into action - but basically with BARC and Yokohama!

Reading the overview, will you be offering prepped EK4's like the BC series?

K20 EK9 not enough for you ;)

I'd say around £7k for a fully prepped DC2. Bolt in cage, lifeline extinguisher, rain light, FIA seat and harness, cut off, coilovers, pads, discs etc. Or we can supply race prepared shells for you to complete.

Your EK9 would fit in nicely into Class B - in fact its probably the best engine/chassis for class B.

Its never been about the power for me, I had plenty of fun with the B16, I wanted something more just to get past the idiots who dont like to move over on a trackday, just happen to choose the K20 after a chat with a certain owner..
I like the sound of a level playing field, would love to race, and a 1.6 would be fine for me, but like many, no regular work now. Like the idea of going halves with another driver for any race series at some point.
Mine is still a road car, I like the spring rates and driving it to a trackday. Without work its just a dream at the moment.

This is great! I was always hoping that a Honda race series would be available in the UK. I have signed up and hopefully in the future I can compete :nice: Thanks for settings this up Mike and Kris!

you pair of legends, i just wish i had the funding to get into this. Its about time someone did something about the lack of honda specific racing, i would kill for the money to build a car competative in this series with the money to keep it running!! (anyone need any enemies assasinating ??) hahaha i joke, but seriously fair play! cant wait to come and watch some of theese events

If its any help, we are allowing two drivers so you can do one race each but both need to qualify (3 laps each in a 15 min period).

it looks like there a lot of play time in 2011.
this can be cheaper than the BC, am i right?

Well you can run your own car and there is no up front payment for the season and no committment to have to run the whole season (or the following season). You just pay per race and turn up when you want to.

With a cheap Civic VTI race prepped with bolt in cage, existingshisher, cut off etc. and with some race mods such as coilovers, costing around 4-5k and with entries at only £280 then its very cheap racing.

thats what iam thinking.
you can pick up a EF or EG cheap as chip. than put a b16b or b18c, do the cage and ther stuff.
car like this is good for class B right? its just under 4k.

anyway, i think the first thing need to do is get the B licence, but my GP was having holiday and not back until 9 sep !! :(

B16b would be class D (up to 1600) and B18 would be Class C (1600-1800).

Sounds like youre in the process of getting your license then??

ha ha. yes, the b16 should be in class D, too early for the computer thingy.

yes, already paid and received the MSA pack. I went to see the GP yesterday and found out he was in holiday !! the point is i did ask the missus before i pay the visit !!

Originaly was looking into the BC civic cup, but now i can see there is another option.
let me double check everythings and i know what i will do.

Well the beauty of this series is you can basically do what you want to the car - thats what a lot of people like about Hondas, tuning, swapping engines, etc. so we want to encourage ingenuity in the series - you dont need lots of money to be competitive!!

TBH a DC2 would be a great basis for a race car. You can pick up one with a good engine with maybe some mods - coils, exhaust etc. for £3500-4000 and about £1500 to make it race ready.

Or if you are handy with a spanner, EG or CRX with a B18 would be very competitive.

Plus it will be just a grid of all Hondas - the paddock atmosphere will be great!

.....also worth mentioning that we are putting a lot of thought and money into the paddock/hospitality side of things aswell as more than your usual £3 trophy at the end of the races, so all in all a great place to be!
