Another decat question.

Hey guys, i've looked in the search and can't find the answer, my '99 ek4 is up for MOT and the cat is rattling like a *beeb* but do i need one? or can i get a decat?

You will fail your MOT on emissions if you have a de-cat fitted because of the emissions, your cat will probably still get you through your MOT as it is and then you can fit a de-cat after if you so wish. But you will have to change it before every MOT though

You'll probably find the rattling is from the heat shield around the CAT. You could always check by tightening the 4 nuts up before hand! There isnt really much else that could be rattling unless its severly rusted through..

Hey guys sorry for the late reply but been real busy and saw prodigy and pendulum at the weekend, that's the thing went under yesterday and the cat is a little dirt ridden but no rust to worth mentioning, just annoying rattles. I use my bike for work and the missus uses it and chirps on about the noise, I'll chance me arm in the MOT with it how it is and prepare for the worst, but in the near future i'm thinking something K....

The honey comb metal on the inside of your cat may be in bits and thus causing a ratteling sound, if this is the case i doubt it will pass the mot! but worth a shot i supose!
