Hi guys!

Still unsure between an EK9 and an EP3 Civic but that's besides the point!

I have spoken with MashaMoto - Car Modification Specialists (they advertise a lot on ebay) and they have said they can import a good condition, low-average mileage silver EK9 for £4500-£5000 on the road here in the UK.

Now as much as I was debating an EP3, coming in a grand below budget with a silver EK9 (first colour choice!) would be fantastic and if the importer was good I'd be tempted to just order one...

Now have you guys heard anything about this importer? Any questions I should be asking?

Thanks!

Not sure what there like tbh

I'd give type-r-dunk a phone or pm and see what he can do for you, he's your best bet

Only thing is his prices are almost double this other importers.

A guy on here advertised his black EK9 with red wheels for sale when he was upgrading to an S2000 and he said he imported his with MashaMoto, I PM'd him but I don't know how active he is so I could be waiting a long time for a reply!

Understand that for the cheapest prices your car will have more dents and cracks in the paint that the expensive ones. I know someone who imports EK9's for £4000 to convert into rally cars and generally, although they need some TLC, they aren't too bad.

I contacted Mashamoto, they seem like a bunch of good guys, but I didn't get my EK9 though them so I can't really comment.

Only thing is his prices are almost double this other importers.
So £6k for a very tidy pre-facelift and about £7.5k for a Rx is double what anyone charges . Show me!
Just look on pistonheads, i thought my prices are very competitive.
My prices are a bit higher as i refuse to import sh*t sub standard cars like most of the other independent dealers do :angry2:. Also i put alot of time into my cars to bring them up to a high standard.
You WILL get what you pay for!
Dunx

sorry rant finished:woot:

dunx`s prices are spot on , he only sells top quality ek9`s you get what you pay for,,,,,

I'm not for a minute doubting that Duncans cars are in good condition, nor am I doubting he works on them when they arrive in the uk, but with a £6000 budget he said he couldn't gaurantee the quality of a 9.

I was jumping the gun with double, about £3,000 more is approximately what I've been told.

How does duncan choose which cars to import? Is it based on auction grade sheets?

Well mines was a grade 4 and i paid 8500 i think it was last august which was an 2000 rx model and was mint when i picked it up. Inside was immaculate.

Personally i wouldnt buy an import below a grade 4

Another thing to consider is, when u come to sell it and you mention Dunk imported it, then more folk will probably be interested as people know him. Unlike mahasmotos not many folk have heard off them tbh

also this is in dunks favour its not only cost money to buy, when you have paid how much yen etc. you have 10% duty to pay then the shipping cost could be upto £800 depending on ship and company then the 17.5% or 15% which could be extra £300 + vat on top then you will need to buy the plates also pay for it to be registered then you have to pay for mot then tax then go over the car to make sure nothing else needs doing. then storage cost etc.

i know this as i was planning to import and i have my contact in japan also a local friend of mine does imports. overall £6000 for the ek9 is spot on then again i could get them as little as £3000 - £4000 decent ones but if you dont know any one in japan to check the car out for you then you risking £3000 plus extra for shipping etc and any work thats is needed.

like dunks said you paying for high qaulity ek9 and the service.

when i purchase my sir2 i brought it for 3400 was originally 4000 and i was happy to pay that much i had great spec with it like zeal coilovers which can arrange between £1700 - £2000 +.

I bought my Rx from Duncan and it was well worth the extra bit of $$$, the inside and out side looked like it has just rolled out of the factory. And like Zub said, when I come to sell it the first line of my advert will read: Imported by Duncan of Crawford Cars. Because then any buyer will know it's a quality car.

Pay the extra money and KNOW what you are going to get is good, or pay less and HOPE what you are going to get is good.

Just think what you can get for £3500 over here when buying a performance car (a pile of rubbish) let alone having a performance car imported half way around the world for £3500. It'll be a shed.

deaf go with dunx as above well worth the xtra dollar or torque gt they're good guys i know three people with cars from them and they where all in excellent nick as are dunx's cars!!!

Hi
when i said i couldn't guarantee quality at £6k that must have been a face-lift. Or about the min i would do a pre face-lift at the current UK/Jap exchange rate is £6k.
Yes Torque GT's cars are also very good and i would highly recommend them too.
So what is your budget if you don't mind me asking. Are you going to JAE?
Dunx

Hi dunx, no unfortunately I am in Scotland so tend to be a billion miles away from anything fun like that. I'm struggling to find an EK9 to actually test drive up here though which is a concern! I'm seriously going to have to consider buying blind which is the main factor stopping me from committing to an EK over an EP. Especially as now I have access to a daily driver for work and long distances.

My budget is £6k, can't afford to stretch it much further Duncan as I'm trying to buy a house too! I would be interested in anything you though you could offer, my only problem is I would prefer a silver one which I've been told command a premium. A couple of questions I do have for you Duncan is which EK9's have airbags, do any have sunroofs and how do they react in accidents? Think that's it :)

None have sunroofs and try not to crash them thou I have seem 3 ek9s crashed and even rolled and they all held together fairly well...Also most do come with airbags

They actually do seem to hold up very well in BIG accidents. However have a light knock in the front and you will probably need a new front panel.
All normal 9's have twin SRS, ABS, door side impact bars and the Recaro's definitely help in accidents.
I have two at £6k at the moment. A pre face-lift due in in about a week and a face-lift ready to go now, very tidy, original but is on 100k miles. I have a silver one due in but i am afraid it is out of budget.
All the best, good luck, Dunx

Are you the same guy on the civiclife forum who started the ep3 vs ek9 thread?
thought you were pretty convinced that the ep3 was the one to go for?!
As for Duncans cars, my 9 was bought from there and as well as a good price and great car, he offers great assistance when you are in need of help. :nice:

Yea I keep chopping and changing my mind between the two!

EP is the sensible choice, but having access to a daily driver is tempting me to at least try the EK.
