aRc's 1998 CW Facelift EK9

Cars looking great matey! Thanks again for lending me the cat converter, top man :nice:

Awesome job dude.
So whats your view on that suspension? how good is it ? comfort / handling ? :)

thanks mate :) after a week of travelling to work and back, i would say i rate the suspension pretty highly. i have been riding around on the damaged Ohlins for a while though so i'd forgot how smooth the car used to be! haha :) i have the KW's dampers set to their hardest setting on the front and around 15% lighter on the rear but may adjust and experiment with them over time :)

Lovely Ek9 and great update! Let us know how you rate the tyres as i think i will getting some of those for my road tyres next since i hear the RS2 is discontinued and mine are nearly dead!. Also heard great things about KW suspension so let us know how you get on :nice: !!! Car looks awesome on the new wheels!

thanks for the comments :) the tyres seem really good but i've not noticed too much difference from the RS2's, they're certainly no worse though, and i really rated them. i hadn't heard about the RS2's being discontinued, which would be a shame, but i would recommend these so far :)

Awesome EK9 bud, read the whole thread, looks well and has a good stance :nice:

thanks to you, glad you like the stance as i'm getting used to it now too :)

Great work mate, gorgeous example. Loving the wheels! Also, I spy Joshm88's coupe next to that DC5! Was looking over the DC5 whilst we were up there the other week

thanks for the comments :) what were you having done up there?
yeah, that was Josh's coupe - they began working on it after i was done. it looked pretty nice but the engine is meant to be something a little special?!

Car looks amazin mate, loving the new mods:naughty: The ADO8's look very sticky, how do you rate them compared to the RS2s?

thank you mate :) yeah, the tyres seem good so far. the weathers not been amazing this week but i have had a few little blasts and my confidence is growing with them! they certainly seem as good as the RS2's and i really liked them :) i have a feeling you what my next update will be! :secret:

Cars looking great matey! Thanks again for lending me the cat converter, top man :nice:

i do recall your post! i wonder if you have a car now or if anyone has taken you out yet? if not, will have to come by some time!

Very nice build up mate :nice: lovely car!

thanks for the comments mate, will hopefully see you around Manchester some time :nice:

no major updates really but i did buy a new tax disc recently:

i know it's of a pre-facelift but i don't think it matters too much. i really like these images anyway! :)

although the car isn't at its best at the moment as this thread: http://www.ek9.org/forum/interior-exterior/38837-help-light-dash.html i did attend a rolling road day at Tdi-North a couple of weeks back now. a collection of photos can be seen in this thread: http://www.ek9.org/forum/photos-videos/39122-30-07-2011-rolling-road-day-tdi-north.html but below is a few of mine:
P1030215a.jpg

P1030223a.jpg

P1030302a.jpg

and a video of it on the rolling road:
30072011 - Honda Civic Type R (EK9) @TDi North - YouTube

the cars dyno is as follows:
dyno.jpg

and this is a little different to a few years back as the following comparison shows:
dyno-1.jpg

the bhp seems to have moved from 183@8888rpm to 182@8164rpm but the torque figure has gone from 113@7844rpm to 125@6492rpm. the car only looks to have revved to 8250-ish rpm this time but went to 9000-ish rpm last time too...

any comments on the power output etc would be appreciated as it hasn't really moved since the installation of the following bolt on items:
- exhaust manifold and decat
- intake manifold and throttle body

maybe i'll have to get saving for a ecu and remap as this maybe the key to some extra power!

anyways, next update will be after it's service for the winter as will get a few more bits put on then :)

forget the dyno readings - could be loads of variables.

My 9 dynod at 173 bhp and got around Cadwell in one of the fastest times recorded in the last 10 years for a car under 2.0 on std tyres and suspension.

An s300 and good map makes all the difference!

Yea I wouldn't worry too much about the dyno mine ran 182 on a different dyno, but 192 at tdi with the whale ***** intake instead, doubt it would make 10bhp difference :)

Sweet build! Just went through the whole thing.

I would say you have made an improvement as the new graph is much smoother and you have lost the drop in power at about 5000rpm and just before vtec. :)) but a re map will always help make the most of your mods.

Oh and keep up the good work!

thanks for the comments mate, interesting to know that!

will definitely look into a S300 in the future :nice:

i didn't know the difference was that much on yours! haha!

a bit of an update as i had my 130k service earlier in the month and had a few bits and bobs fitted too! this included a Buddy Club Short Shifter, new rear drop links and a Password:JDM Rear Strut brace to match the front, the latter was bought from Spek9 on here :)

the car was also prepped for the winter months with a bit of undersealing and i changed my Spoon SW388's for the OEM wheels so the grit doesn't ruin them!

those of you who read my thread about my engine light - http://www.ek9.org/forum/interior-exterior/38837-help-light-dash.html - will be pleased, as i am, to know this has been traced back to the speed converter. i'm currently running the car in kmh with a road angel and i'm slowly getting used to seeing the speedo so far round the dial! i'm just enjoying having the car running okay again as the intermittent vtec and engine light was frustrating! i'll be getting a new speed converter installed at some point as i don't want my mileage being too inaccurate as i've noticed the km's soon mount up!

the car will stay like this through the winter months and then i'll get the SW388's put back on for the summer along with a few other bits!

Cars looking well mate, you will have to come on a run out in north Wales in the summer give those brakes a good run :))

Mint, nice 9.

Im impressed with the accuracy of cutting the rear plastics for the strut brace. Im almost scared to start on mine as im afraid I will butcher it.

That was a good long read :)). Your cars looking ace.

As soon as the weather buck's up well have to get a Northern meet going. Im itching to go to my first meet lol.

Looking good mate. Glad you got the problem sorted. I had the same problem a while back but it fixed itself :D

Anymore updates on the 9 mate? I'll be off to TDI soon just waiting on some parts, be worth setting a meet up.

great build mate

i remember seeing this at TGI fridays a while back. i parked my dc5 next to it lol

i will definitely come on a Welsh run with you mate, just let me know when you're going on one! it was good to finally meet you at the Rolling Road day last weekend :)

thanks for the comments man! i had the rear strut installed as i wouldn't have dared do it in fear of ruining it! haha :)

cool! will hopefully make it over to Chester soon so we can go out for a run out! yeah, it must have a while back now as i've not been there for far too long!

thanks mate, was good to see you last weekend and finally meet you! your car is amazingly clean! we'll have to arrange another meet soon :)

no major updates here but i've been taking a few pictures of the car over the past few weeks so thought i'd post some up! i haven't spent much on the car over the winter months but did get a new camera so will hopefully get some good pictures over summer, especially when i've learnt how to use the camera and am comfortable with it!

so the winter was pretty hard on the car so here are the pictures of it before i spent a full day cleaning it in March:

after seeing this thread posted up: http://www.ek9.org/forum/interior-exterior/46084-how-mph-converter-into-ek9-cluster.html, i finally managed to get hold of a speed converter from Hond-R and it was installed by WGT. i was worried about the mileage reading being too inaccurate as i'd managed to rack up 14k km's so after this was installed, i took the following picture for reference:

@Simon_32 kindly organised a rolling road day in Wales as this thread: http://www.ek9.org/forum/upcoming-events-meets/45973-north-wales-dyno-day-meet.html so it made me make sure the car looked okay! the pictures of the day can be seen here: http://www.ek9.org/forum/photos-videos/47006-24-03-2012-get-dynod-rr-meet-buckley-north-wales.html and a few extracts of my car can be seen below:

a printout of my rolling road runs can be seen below:

it seems the Get Dyno'd rolling road was less generous than the TDi-North dyno as it showed the car as putting out 169 bhp at the fly and 80 lb/ft of torque, which is a big reduction to the TDi figures! i believe there can be many, many factors that have an effect on dyno results so am not too worried and i love the car regardless!

after the rolling road day, i took a trip into Manchester to go to a gig and in a car park i took the following photo:
P1050181.jpg

i will be updating this thread again soon as my car's booked into the garage in late April to have a service, where i'll have the Spoon SW388's re-installed and have the steering wheel installed that is pictured below, which @Faniel85 kindly gave me:
carpics002-1.jpg

i also hope to get the car mapped later on in the year, especially if i attend a track day, which is been mentioned following the rolling road day!
