Are Rota wheels really that bad? Maybe not!

Don't see how you can class Rota's as fake's as they are not trying to be passed off as anything other than a rota wheel.

They basically just copied wheel designs and reproduced them as their own. Not fake in any way. Just a wheel company that make wheels that are designed like those that are popular. In what way does that make them junk?

This!

A fake is a copy of a genuine product that is sold under the impression of the buyer to be genuine. A replica is a copy of a genuine product but sold under its own brand name.

I had Rota torques on my mb6, only problem I had was hit a pot hole and cracked in 4 places on the inside of the alloy. Apart from that held up to the abuse I gave them would have no problem buying another set!

I have never had any experience with them, but not everyone can afford £2k+ for a set of wheels. They look good and preform well, as has been proved. They are just given a bashing because of a few pictures that have been circulating the car scene for years.

What I don't get, where did the whole rota debate start?

I bought my first set 6 years ago now, and even then they were bashed. But even then there never any common complaints IMO. I think what annoyed people most about them was the simple replication of big brand wheel design.

I personally always have backed rota wheels.

But interesting post :nice:

Back in the late 90's / early 00's Honda Tech was flooded with posts about Rota. The camp was divided similar to now (i cant believe after all these years the debate still lives on). From what i remember the thing that started it was the divide between the guys with JDM Bling status who had spent thousands of dollars on ultra rare & discontinued wheels who then thought their wheels will devalue and then you had the average person who wanted the same look but never had the cash or desire to purchase ultra rare JDM wheels. Rota made cast replicas of most popular forged JDM wheels. People were going apeshit slating the wheels and those photos started doing the rounds. I can understand both sides of the argument and can't understand why people are still against them. I have never owned a set but a lot of friends purchased slipstreams for their CRX's back in the day as they were very light and cheap and not on one occasion did a wheel fail in either drag or track environments. You see more and more track cars / drift cars using Rotas now and they have picked up a loyal fan base.

I don't see Rota making formula one wheels, Enkei and Rays do ... take from that what you will

You cant even compare Rota to the likes of Rays and Enkei. that's like comparing Yokohama A048 to cheapo ditch finders. You get what you pay for at the end of the day... I got Rotas on my 1.4 daily never had a problem with them but the craftsmanship isn't half as good as my Enkeis. Lightweight means nothing, Enkeis and Rays are also Durable and will take 10x more stress. Proven. You cant argue with cold hard facts. if you want chap wheels that look nice get some Rotas, if you want some quality made product that will stand the test of time get some Rays and that can be said for everything.

All I took from that is that you seem to think that our jo publics Road/ Track car's are in some way similar to an F1 car......

Does that mean because my civic doesn't have a carbon fiber composite structure then it is going to disintegrate and implode if i hit a pothole or a curb......

Who was arguing? No one is saying that Rotas are as good as rays etc. but they are perfectly good enough for what most people on here would use them for. The only argument is against the people who think that Rotas are just "**** replicas" that can't handle track use. Comparing our little Hondas to f1 cars...??? Now that's a bit OTT.

Exactly this is the point people need to realise.

End of the day you see tone's of High powered cars Running time attack, track racing and drifting on Rota's. So what makes them so bad for us to use them on out tame little hatchback road/track cars.

Makes this argument even more so amusing suggesting these wheels not up to the task of being fitted to the likes of Civics....

Maybe if you were in a race series running full slicks or Rallying you may have a point.

failure rate due to manufacturing defect on them is probably statistically insignificant and if it ever was significant im sure Rota would have rectified the problem(s) long ago

you cant stop idiots damaging wheels from fitting them incorrectly or hitting a pot hole/kerb at 60mph+

funnily enough the civics and integras I see in my area driven by (insert #street-tag name) are the most likely to experience the above and usually have Rota wheels...

2 + 2 = Rota are weak **** fake wheels

...of course a metal should be stronger than concrete :angry2:
